@heinkeljb: very kind of you, as you can see this project is not exactly racing along and I may indeed take up your offer.

@kerry: thanks for the clarity, the silicon is to seal the joint not to preserve/lube the inside of the boot.

Good advice guys, thanks. I do know how difficult it is getting the drive shaft with it's square bearing 'stones' inserted into the diff.
I will look harder into importing the split version from Europe.

kerry, by 'correct type of silicon' do you mean rubber grease?

Swing Arm Rubber Boot Alternative

Does anyone know of an alternative rubber boot that will fit the front & rear swing arm axle (thinking that a VW Golf l / Ford Fiesta / Opel Corsa CV boot might fit)? I have a very non-original Series l SWB with perished rubber boots that need replacing.

Hi All, I'm from Zululand, South Africa and have a '62 Series 1 SWB Haflinger 700 (Chassis / Gearbox No: CF 5352174 Engine No: 5359186) that I began stripping down and rebuilding in Nov 2010 but lost impetus after a couple of years and its been sitting under a dust-cover.
