Re: My Hafy project is complete
Broken crankshaft, heads damaged beyond repairing, valves warped from lack of exhaust system. Basically it was not machined correctly. Had been sitting apart for several years till it was brought to me with engine in boxes. There were many things I needed to repair before it could be road certified ...

Re: Using VW 40hp pistons and cylinders
My reply is a solid no. While performance is good, going larger weakens the case, stresses the rods and this mod puts a heavy load on the Dynastarter while cranking over.

Re: Using VW 40hp pistons and cylinders
Engine build turned out successful. Wouldn’t recommend this configuration. You have to make a fixture to properly cut base and skirts of cylinders as the VW ones are longer(around 2.5mm) than 100mm stock ones. Hand filed the skirts for rod clearance. Each piston was 352.2 grams. 20 grams heavier tha...

Re: Using VW 40hp pistons and cylinders
Thank you for the pictures and info.
Now I see the skirt mod clearly.
Already machined the tops(having a lathe is a +)
Time to get back to work !

Using VW 40hp pistons and cylinders
Been a while since last post. Currently repairing a modded motor that broke a crankshaft. Engine had poorly modded 83mm VW pistons and cylinders. They cut the skirts off and failed to trim cylinders to 100mm. As usual, I got everything in a box😱. Since everything was garbage, started with a new set ...

The bushings are in the vertical rod guide.
Look at your parts book.

Re: Sloppy gear change
Usually the universal joint on the shift rod wears. You can re pean the pins in a press for a reasonably inexpensive repair. Also replace vertical shaft bushings including the bottom one in the nut.

It’s Hella, same socket and lens as VW Bus.
Haflinger trim ring has upper lip. VW is smooth , no lip.

Re: Reverse Light Switch
Yes you can drill and tap. Don’t install the switch until you put transmission in reverse. You may have to shim with extra washer. Uses same switch as Pinzgauer locker.
Or you can use a manual switch. The circuit is already there.

Re: fuel measure specs
Since I have a Factory measure stick, here are the dimensions to make your own. start out with a .2mm thick 15mm wide, 34cm piece of steel. drill 6mm hole for leather or cord(prevents sparking), there are 17 marks on the stick in total, each mark below 30L represents 2L of fuel, measure stick is sam...

Re: Zenith Carb problems
You can use the newer type pump check valve from a Unimog 404 or a Pinzgauer.
I rebuild many Zeniths.
The 32 has many interchangeable parts.
You can also use the Mog pump plunger with viton rubber seal if you adjust the pump rod to 73mm on center.

Re: Engine damage
Just so you understand how it works, engine Oil pumps do not work in reverse rotation, that was the failure.
Top end has most friction, needs lots of oil, first to fail when starved.
Now get that thing back on the road!

Re: Crankshaft end float
Still in the safe zone on end play but to correct, you can check in this order, #1 use thinnest shim at crank pin to flywheel to reduce play,#2 rear main bearing thrust surface worn= replace if out of spec, #3 and most common cause of excessive end play is worn crankshaft thrust surface. I have used...

Re: Looking for the old engine for a Swiss 700AP engine#5355
I think you just won the lottery! While going through some of Scott's Haflinger parts, I came across that very case.
Case looks ok even though the crankshaft was in 2 pieces.
Left a message with Scott for you.
I can put it in the parts washer for a better look if you like.

It is a full regulator conversion, all you re use is the mounting bracket. Takes about an hour to do the whole conversion
