Re: Those limit straps....
Ok,here goes! A wacky idea for increasing weight to improve handling. If you don't use your rear seats, remove them. Line the rear foot wells with a release agent and or plastic, then fill them with concrete and a small section of rebar, add a knoted rope handle before it dries. You will the then ha...

Re: hard to start my haflinger
Hi Fred,
When you said that at that point you jumped the fire a couple of times I imagined you were leaping across an open fire in some kind of weird ritual, like a scene from the Whicker Man, in hope that the spirits would start your engine for you. I now see you meant spark.

Cheers John,
Finally my Haf is fully legal and on the road. 10 months to complete the restoration and 12 months to fight the ridiculous nightmare know as French administration. France makes India from 20 years ago look like a modern e-commerce country. But hey! got there in the end.

Re: Laying up a Haflinger
Hi John, Given you have a battery cutout switch on yours you shouldn't bleed to much power from the battery, just normal discharge which if I remember correctly is about 5% a week. If you wanted to be really cute you could put it up on axle stands. Oh yeh, don't forget a warm blanket, hot water bott...

Hi John and Julian,
I think I am going to go as is. Because the collar has a shoulder it doesn't flex.

Re: Speedo cable
Ok, i cracked it. Firstly the new combined outer and inner cable I bought from Haflinger Technic cannot be separated. Try as I might. The solution is to cut a section from the collar at the speedo end of the cable the width of the black outer cable. Then having threaded the new cable into place secu...

Re: Speedo cable
I think I may have a solution. Would appreciate your thoughts. Using a dremel carefully slice through one side of the threaded collar at the speedo end. Then gently prise apart. Having removed this remove the cable and replace. Then replace, the collar and use a jubilee/hose clip,to,secure back in pl...

Re: Speedo cable
Hi John,
Sorry but I am totally confused by your suggestion.
Just to recap I need to replace both the outer and the inner.
Apologies if I am missing your point,

Julian,
Yes, it is rather frustrating to say the least. I would like to wait but unfortunately the Haf has its Controle Technique (MOT) next week.
I feel a hole coming on, if you know what I mean.

Speedo cable
Do any of you clever folk know if it is possible to change a speedo cable without first disconnecting the brake pipe from the master cylinder and removing the steering gear. I have a failed cable (outer and inner) and I can't see anyway of doing it. The securing collar is just too large. I am seriou...

Re: Doors and soft tops
Jim,
I have a slant back set of door frames and short boards together with a slope back tilt. The tilt and covers are all there but would be best as a pattern as the stitching has gone. Came from an Austrian one i believe. Happy to sell as I will never use them.

Re: Reassembling rear brakes
thanks John, I managed to sort it out this morning. I had a eureka moment. I fitted the shoes and all the bars and spring etc together in one go. I just fitted the shoes into the wheel cylinder below the hub and then span the entire assembly around. Simple. The pesky little springs were not an issue...

Reassembling rear brakes
help!!! I have just finished assembling my front brakes which only took minutes and was thinking the rear brakes would prove to be no problem. Wrong! I have been trying to fit the shoes complete with bottom spring and spacing bar to the wheel before fitting the pesky top springs. The problem is that...

Re: Variations on soft tops and doors
Hi John, Well I have learnt a few things over the last few days. There are at least 3 different lengths of side panels for SWB Hafs. Full length ones that run from the rear to forward hood stick, short ones like I have on my Haf and mid length ones which are found on military Haffs that have slant b...
