Re: Haflingers hard at work

Before I took mine completely apart last winter, I looked for every excuse to use it around the farm. Things like collecting weeds from a strawberry field, checking hayfield conditions, and delivering hay to horses in not so distant paddocks. There was also horse fence repair runs and maple sap coll...

Re: Some questions about haflinger bodywork

I've thought of getting the whole thing acid-stripped/derusted, but most of the original primer is still good, and I don't want to take off whatever primer there may be between panels and in all the inaccessible gaps, since I won't be able to paint areas like the inside of the tubular platform rails...

Some questions about haflinger bodywork

So I've removed the platform from the chassis, and I'm hoping to repair some rusty spots, holes and dents before painting it in the spring. I figured I'd ask you guys about your experiences with this before I start something that turns out to be impossible. Rear footwells: Is it possible to remove t...

Re: Gearbox Dipstick - Original or Modified

Just to throw it out there, my canadian spec series 2 haffie has the dipstick, and it's registered as a 1972 (data plate is missing the year, so I can't be too sure). Still doesn't explain why some got the dipstick and some didn't...

Re: Vehicle option mount

I've always wondered what that was for! Glad someone asked. My best guess was that it was some kind of holder for that lolipop-looking thing that's in the parts manual. (What's that for? Directing convoy traffic?) So just to clarify, the map light is the one with a shutter, not the "dome light&...

Cool!
How much electrical power does a winch like that typically draw?
Would you have to have a second battery to be sure that you won't run out of juice on a trail after using it?

Re: New member to the forum from Australia.

Mine, the family that owned it called them "Dingers" or "Lingers" because the kids couldn't pronounce "haflinger". Wish they didn't call it a Dinger though.. Maybe the kids driving it would have been more careful and not treated it like a bumper car.

What is under the glass bowl fuel filter? It almost appears that it was replaced with an electric fuel pump.

I think the ebay member who was selling that polycab in the UK was "brownbicker". Hope that helps.

Re: Grease - what type for general use?

What kind of grease do you guys recommend for the CV's? I'm particularly concerned about those because of the effort it takes to regrease them, compared to regular grease fittings that can be easily pumped up.
Is there any particular brand or formulation that's best and longest lasting?

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Ahh, I was wondering if that was one of those LWB-SWB differences. Yeah, drums full of mud becomes all the more awful when they freeze solid! Learned the clean-after-you-play lesson the hard way. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why the engine ran but the car wouldn't budge. Are there any tric...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Looks like great weather and a lot of fun!
Was the haflinger really able to cross that mud hole?!

Also, does it have deeper than average rear seat wells? And are those rear seat belts in the back?

Re: hard to start my haflinger

Another Canadian haflinger owner, wonderful! The NGK plugs are B7HS, easy to find at the local auto store. I went through a lot of plugs when I was having my flooding and rich-running issue. One thing that happened to me, is that it sometimes ran on only one cylinder unless I introduced a gap betwee...

It turned out that two of my fan blades were bent out of shape!
I feel dumb.

Re: Engine sound with and without fan cover

Thanks for the responses! I now feel I have reason to believe something might not quite be right. I only run the engine without the cover when setting the idle. I've seen how hot it gets, and what a difference clean engine tin on the cylinders makes. I will check these things the next time I'm worki...

Engine sound with and without fan cover

This probably sounds like a silly question for those who have seen more than one Haflinger in their day, but I've only ever seen one, and it is far from perfect, so I have to ask all sorts of silly questions to make up for the lack of Haffie experience. My question today is this: is it supposed to s...

Re: Carburetor in pieces!

Having run out of things to adjust, replace, and try, I put in the worn out mixture screws from when I first rebuilt the carb. These had been so abused before me that they did not merely have grooves, but needle had so much material missing it almost looked like a different design, as the taper didn...
