Re: Tie rod end outer body sizes (too bulky)

I had the same problem. All of my tie rod ends were stuffed and after chasing replacements and wanting to buy "local" I fitted VW ones. The threads were the same as was the taper, the lengths were right and I had a good amount of adjustment on them. They were however slightly larger in the...

Re: New member to the forum from Australia.

Hey Gary, Guilty Your honour on all counts. This was the first outing to show the Haffy off to the public which was a fund raiser day for the car club that I am in and also another 2 groups that share the same area as us. Covid knocked us a bit with numbers but we still had heaps of people through t...

Re: The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!

Hey John, Have just hit the "donate" button. I have finished the restoration of my Haffy and don't use the forum as much and am down to only having a look at it about 15 times a day. Still very interested in what is going on in the world of Haffys and this forum is the best place in the wo...

Engine earth straps

Hey everyone, I am nearing the end of my Haffy rebuild and have a problem with the 2 earth straps in the engine compartment. One of them goes from the dynastart to the bulk head behind the engine but where does the other one go. I sort of have a memory that it goes from the dyna start to a stud that...

Re: Steering mechanism stiff.

Hey Jeff, I had the same problem with mine. I never knew what was inside the housing in the way of bushes and mine turned out to be a nylon type of bush in the alloy of the housing so I was glad that I never really heated it up. After pulling the steering box apart as much as I could,I made up a dec...

Re: Cold weather mods?

Hey Gang, Here is some technical advice on the mesh on the rear engine cover. Travel here to Australia, purchase an ironing board, you know those contraptions that you unfold and it stands up to form a platform to rest your clothes on while you iron them, pull the thing apart and you will find in th...

Hey all, A word of warning. When you find the hole or crack in the float drill a small hole in it so that yo can shake rattle and role the thing and get the fuel out of it.When it is empty and dried out you can just solder up the hole and the problem is solved. When I was a brand new apprentice I was...

Re: Hour Meter Wanted

Hey Gary, My hourmeter has an earth lead from the bracket to the body and a positive lead to a power source, and the light has a lead to a power source and it just earths out where it pushes into the body of the gauge. I ran mine for a couple of hours just hooked up to a battery and could then see i...

Re: Interesting "folding" trailer on eBay UK

Hey John, I think the trailer is not part of a "Haffie/trailer" package that went out the back of an aircraft, it just went out on its own with the troops. It was then used by the troops who pushed it by hand around the drop zone gathering up all of the kit which generally is spread in eve...

Re: Hour Meter Wanted

Hey Gary, The hour meter in my dash sits in its own little panel and is not part of the main dashboard panel. It also sits to the left of the main panel of switches and gauges. So I suppose if you are concerned about a big empty hole then you could remove that little panel and it would just be a gap...

Re: Master Cylinder Repairs

Hey Gary, It might pay you to get a split ring spanner which are made for over tight fittings on brake lines. They are like a normal ring spanner with a slot in the ring which is just enough to slip over the brake line and then you have nearly a complete ring spanner to swing on rather than an open ...

Re: 703 for sale in Australia

Hey Gang, So having read the last few posts I am completely confused. My gearbox/chassis number is 535 8783. My engine number is 536 0219. I don't know whether the two numbers should be the same, and if they should be, but are different, then that would mean that it has had an engine change, or mayb...

Hey Gary, Thanks for that info. I thought that I had seen it somewhere before on the forum but couldn't remember where, so thought it would be easier and quicker to ask. And it was. Am having 3 other Haffie owners here for a get together this Sat, so that will make 4 Haffies here at the one time, an...

He Gary, I have just made a fuel tank for mine and made sure that all of the external seams were not leaking and then used a tank sealer on the inside. I blocked all of the threaded holes etc and then a minimum of sealer, nowhere the whole tin, just enough to seal the lengthwise seam and the 2 end p...

Re: New member from west oz

Hey Adam I have just sat through the 3 videos that Gary has posted, and I first saw them in Mel during the time I was doing my apprenticeship and they convinced me that I should get out and have a look at that part of Australia. During my annual leave in the last year of my training I went up to the...
