Re: Aussie Colours

This removable panel belongs to the engine and would be painted black originally. Maybe on your Haflinger it was repainted during an engine overhaul? On many Haflingers, some "hidden spots" that are usually not repainted are well suited to identify the original color. E.g., the inside of t...

Re: Aussie Colours

I think that the Australian Haflingers were assembled in Graz, then partly disassembled and sent to Australia as CKD kits. Indications for that are e.g. the "roman numerals" that can be found on engines and firewalls, possibly for the purpose of putting the correct assemblies back together...

Re: 703 for sale in Australia

There existed two versions of the raised air vent. The Haflinger for sale has a version that goes all the way up to the top edge of the rear board.

Re: Two basket case Haf's for sale

Hello,

did somebody save the photos? I can only see one image of the Navy Haflinger, possibly because the offer has ended.

Thanks and kind regards,
Constantin

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?

Ole,

what do these shims between flywheel and main bearing look like? To my understanding, there should be no shims. There should be a copper gasket between flywheel and crank shaft (one that has three holes where the dowel pins sit).

Kind regards,
Constantin

Re: 1970 Haflinger (UK auction)

I think the Haf looks tidy at a first glimpse but it appears that the body has been repaired and welded in many places: Weld-on plates under the steering column, in the front footwell where it connects to the u-shaped members under the seats, on the platform near the engine bay etc... and the rear f...

At the bottom, there is also a link to the S-Tec website.

Re: help for restoration of an italian Haflinger !!

Hello, I think the front hoop/roll bar is correct for a 1964 Haflinger. Also, in the early 60s, not all Haflingers already had the 4+K gearbox, i.e. it can well be that this vehicle had a 4 speed box. Gearbox, shifter knob and dashboard plate also seem to fit together. Dashboard looks original to me...

Re: Oil Filter

One of my father's Haflinger was made in 1973 too and still has the old oil filter type. I think that the changeover to the screw-on type was during 1973. Your Haf was built only 59 VINs later, so it might well be that yours also still had the old oil filter type.

Re: Handbrake Lever Position

Hello everybody, I haven't been into this topic in detail so far, but the findings in this thread are definitely interesting. In the latest official Haflinger spares catalogue that I know of (edition 1970 with handwritten extensions no. 907.1.70.253.4, printed 1991) there is a "reinforced"...

Does it also have the 70 mm pistons? Or was the engine retrofitted with larger bore cylinders?

I think even if you buy directly from Magna (S-Tec) its approx. 90 Euro. They are trying to make big money out of everything now. 10 years back, a friendly Magnasteyr staff member would look up and scan your Wagenstammkarte for free.

Re: Mystery item

Hi Rick, the smaller "bar" on that piece somehow reminds me of the part that keeps the distance between bumpers used on S1 vehicles and the main body cross member. I had a look at your photos in the restoration thread. In this picture, it seems that the hole pattern on the rear end of the ...

Re: Aussie Haflingers and Trailers

Garry,

the historic picture at the top is very interesting. The Haflingers seem to be nearly new, since neither canvas nor paintwork look faded. Could you possibly try to get a high-resolution scan of that picture? Or could you possibly send me a link or contact?

Thanks and kind regards,

Hello, there also exists an original 20 l jerry can holder which is fitted between fuel tank and battery box on Series 2 LWB Haflingers. I do not have a good picture at the moment, but it can be seen in tdc.haflinger-4wd.com/literature/magazines/1975-hobby.php I think that this jerry can holder was ...

Re: hub gearing

Garry, I think in your second picture the stamping can be seen in the upper right side of the center hole, could be a "16". This would also be typical for Australian Haflingers of that age. To see it better, you may use a small rotating wire brush or similar to clean that face of the hub s...
