Re: "Steyr Puch" insignia refurb.

Hi John,
Most appear that way after a short few years exposure to sunlight. Mine is carefully preserved NOS part but is already beginning to show some age signs after only 4 years out of its paper wrapper :( .
Cheers,
Steve

Re: "Steyr Puch" insignia refurb.

Hi Mike, Civilian Haf's use a black, white and green color combination. The Black is satin finish. The White and green are gloss finish. I've included a photo of an original set below. Military Haf's have the badge painted over with their body color. I'm not sure what was done with early Haf's and p...

Re: New Carby - New Tpoic - Zenith Carby

I would have assumed those parts are part of the rebuild kits and replaced as part of the rebuild the carby has just been through. Hi Garry, None of the NDIX carb kits that I've found have included the Suction Valve or the Pressure Valve. Your tuner guy will need to review the adjustment on the acc...

Re: Green plastic sleeve on 4WD lever

Congrats Julian! I appreciate the timidness exercised in that chore because the last thing you want to see is a scratch in your nice new paint or the nuisance of acquiring a new grommet while still having no conclusive way to install the replacement without repeating the disaster  Once again.....

Re: New Carby - New Tpoic - Zenith Carby

He said that the idle mixture is about right and as revs increase it starts to lean off a little but then from mid range up it is full on rich with lots of black smoke coming out the exhaust. Hi Garry, This definitely sounds like a problem with the pressure valve. There is a small rubber ring in th...

Re: New Carby - New Tpoic - Zenith Carby

I understood the Unimog accelerator piston is OK for the Haflinger as long as the outer hole on the bell crank was used which it is. Hi Garry, I've not heard this before and have never tried it but have heard quite the opposite information. That aside, my money's on a problem in the Suction valve a...

Re: New Carby - New Tpoic - Zenith Carby

Hi Garry, My first suggestion is to closely inspect the Pump Suction & Pump Pressure valves as mentioned in my previous post. Secondly is adjustment of the accelerator pump lever for proper volume per Ron LaDow's instructions. Also, its location on the bellcrank arm must be on the outermost hole...

Re: Polycab Front Turn Signals

Hi "Roadkill", I checked my inventory of Carello and Lucas lights and none have the letter A in a circle, followed by 3024 markings. Perhaps yours are Hella or ARIC as suggested by Constantin but the picture that he posted doesn't seem to be the same as yours. It is possible that a replace...

Re: Polycab Front Turn Signals

Hi Constantin, That's interesting info. I had wondered if the European polycabs might have had different lights as they seemed a bit smaller than those I'm familiar with on polycabs in North America. This might have been a modification to meet North American regulations. The polycabs that I am famil...

Re: Polycab Front Turn Signals

Hi "Roadkill", It's difficult to tell which make your signal lights are from the photo but my guess is that they are the Lucas L692. Look for the name embossed on the lens. If they are Lucas then the name and model number is also stamped in the metal base behind the lens. The good news is ...

Re: Polycab Front Turn Signals

Hi "Roadkill", There were two manufacturers of trafficator (signal) lights for Haflingers. Early Haflingers and all polycabs that I've seen use lights made by Carello and they are very difficult to find replacement lenses for. The only other vehicle I've found that use the same Make/Model ...

Re: Green plastic sleeve on 4WD lever

Hi Dave, I don't recall the specifics of the heat shrink that I have but it has a high shrink ratio and is indeed initially quite large. However it does shrink to a very good fit with correct final thickness. I'll get the shrink tube dimensions for you a post them later. They are more durable than t...

Re: New Carby - New Tpoic - Zenith Carby

What I think is happening is that the idle mixtures are a little rich and when at correct idle, the action of the accelerator pump when you go to take off the from the lights is causing an excessively rich mixture that kills the engine - the floats may also be a bit high so the engine is not able t...

Re: New Carby - New Tpoic - Zenith Carby

Hi Garry, The manifold heater tube on the left side had a block-off plate on tropical (APT) models. This part is shown in the Parts Book. As I only drive my Hafi during summer in Canada I have installed this block-off plate. My truck seems to work better this way but takes a few more seconds to warm...

Re: Green plastic sleeve on 4WD lever

Hi Julian, I've managed to get the levers through the grommets while the vinyl grip was still installed but it was not easy. I used a liberal amount of white Lithium grease in the grommet opening as well as on the lever. You need to work very carefully and slowly using an improvised guide tool to pr...

Re: Data Plate location

Hi John, I've never seen a data plate in that location :? . Also, the rivets are not the standard type used by S-D-P. Is it possible that your truck had some restoration work at some point in its history? My understanding of the Hafs shipped in kit form was that the platforms were complete, painted ...

Re: Data Plate location

Hi Julian,
Early Series 1 Hafs had the plate installed adjacent to the door sill as shown in your first photo.
LHD or RHD does not matter as the plate is always on the vehicle's RHS in the locations shown in your photos.
Cheers,
Steve

after perhaps 3 or 4 years of procrastination over my refurb, which I put down to the fear of the unknown and not knowing what I was doing, once I got on & started on the work I have loved the process. Hi Julian, That's very well stated. It's exactly the first thought that every new Haf owner n...

Re: Stone chip paint undercoat - where to apply it ...

Hi Julian, It sounds like the asphalt undercoating was not used for Haf's in some parts of the globe but definitely was for those in Canada. Basically it covered the entire underside of the platform from the lowest point of the front foot well rearward as well as inside the engine compartment. Remov...
