Re: Engine strip down.
Hi Julian, I don't know that installing a #5 cam in a Series 1 engine will work well as this cam is intended to be in combination with the Zenith carb so air volume using the Weber may not be sufficient. The Haflinger Repair Manual makes mention of two topics that apply to your crankshaft endfloat i...

Re: engine runs
Hey Dave,
Congrats on getting the little fella' to fire up! These can be stubborn creatures sometimes, especially with those quirky Zenith carbs.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Engine Governor
Hi Guys, Here's a bit of info regarding the Hafi governor. The Series 1 engines are governed to 4500 RPM. The Series 2 engines are governed to 4800 RPM. Hafi's with a PTO have an additional governor setting lever and different diameter governor drive pulley to limit the revs even further when the PT...

Re: Brake Fluid
Hi Dave,
Do not use synthetic brake fluid in the Hafi. The rubber seals in the master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake hoses are not tolerant of the synthetics. Standard DOT3 from your local auto parts supply store is what you're after.
Regards,
Steve

Re: Air filter
Hi Rodger, I use a K&N #RU-1790. Just trim the rubber flange off the bottom. You won't need to use the Hafi's metal inner filter cover as the K&N has a solid rubber top. Make sure you clean and oil the K&N regularly. I've had no problem to get the original Mann #C1427 filters here in Can...

Re: Torque Tables
I've done an english translation of the torque tables that Jim posted in this topic. My english version also includes torque values for several unit types. The file is in PDF format which I can't upload in this forum so Jim Molloy has asked the forum's administrator to add it to the Documents sectio...

Re: File Uploads
John, I've tried to attach a PDF to my message but was not permitted. The forum rules do not allow PDF attachments to Posts. I think it is better this way and that a "Library" arrangement would be preferable so that important technical document resources do not get lost among long discussi...

File Uploads
This post is not so much of a suggestion as it is a question. I may have overlooked something here but is there a means of uploading PDF documents to this forum like we are able to do on the Yahoo Groups site? I have some Haflinger related documents in PDF that can be shared if there is a place here...

Re: DIY Haflinger Hard Top
Hi John, This is a Series 1 Hafi from Germany or Austria (4-speed gearbox shown on the dash plaque). This version had recessed side repeaters. The owner has made a lot of mods to the dashboard like extra warning indicators, repositioned speedometer and vinyl (faux leather) covering. I don't think th...

Re: DIY Haflinger Hard Top
It looks like he made it using corrugated tin siding from an old tool shed. Did you notice the modifications to the wheel arch in the front tub and fuel tank (homemade tank)? This must have been done to allow use of larger diameter tires. A very challenging task for sure. The battery box and rear fo...

Re: Front Hubs
Hi Garry, You are correct. The groove should not be in the sealing surface. The oil seal may be set deep or shallow to avoid this groove or, in my case, I purchased smaller I.D. seals and lightly machined/polished the surface with my lathe as I could not find a source of speedi-sleeves locally. Chee...

Re: Front Hubs
Hi Garry, The difflock linkage does not have a spring nor a detent ball to hold the lever in the locked position. The whole works should stay in place due to three aspects of the linkage design. First, there is the friction bushing mounted in the floor plate where the handlever passes through. This ...

Re: Haflingers at Waldersee Farm
Hi Jim, It may just be the angle from which the photo of your Kommunal was taken but it appears that you still have the heavy duty front road springs installed. These were used on the Kommunals to help carry the extra load of front mounted attachments. Continuous driving without the attachments will...

Re: Wiper Motor
Hi Garry, It is possible that the motor windings have discolored without being overheated. The gassing-off of the grease in the wiper gearbox will create a similar appearance in the varnish. This same issue will also make the brush commutator very dirty and this should be cleaned with a good quality...

Re: Why two fuse boxes
If your wipers "park" in the vertical position then the timing of the bellcranks on the wiper arm shafts is off by 180 degs. Disconnect the linkage and rotate the shafts 180 deg. then reconnect the linkage.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Why two fuse boxes
It is my experience that earlier Series 1 Haf's had a single fuse block and Series 2 Haf's have dual fuse blocks. This is only a rough rule of thumb as I have seen late production Series 1 trucks with dual fuse blocks too. All of the polycab trucks that I have seen have dual fuse blocks but these ha...
