Re: My first born!
Hey Greg, Good on you for the offer. Your post would have to be the best of 2016. "They are not under the For Sale banner because they are FREE " That is a classic. Well done that man !!!!!!! My suggestion would be to hang onto the paper work and buy a Haffie. I find mine to be the most di...

Hey John,
Just hit the donate button as well I would be up that famous creek without a paddle if it wasn't for this forum. I wouldn't say I over use the forum as I only check it about 20 times a day.
Regards Rick.

Re: Putting Harold to bed
Hey John, I am putting it away to give myself some room to finish off a couple of vintage bikes and to also do the platform. The platform is in a pretty bad way and I figure it will take me 12 months to get it done before I even start on the body work, but at least when I do the platform I can drive...

Putting Harold to bed
Hey All
Am putting the Haffie to bed for about 12 months because the rolling chassis is complete except for a set of 13 inch wheels. Will start on the platform after eating and drinking far too much over Christmas.
All the best for 2017.
Regards
Rick

Re: Doggie, Roo and Man
Hey Gary, A slight twist to your video item. A couple of years ago we started to have trouble with wild dogs around our property with the result the leader off those dogs drove our much smaller dog into our dam and drowned it. A bit later at Xmas the same dog drove a huge kangaroo into the dam and w...

Re: A belated article on the Dutch Treffen 2016
Hey John, An interesting trip into Europe with the Haffie. I would love to drive a Haffie along an autobarn in Germany at a decent speed of about 75 KPH with vehicles getting past at over 200 KPH. The cave with the paintings that you visited, was it the one in Southern France with a lot of horses do...

Re: Fax Number
Hey all, Thanks one and all for your input as to the correct fax number to order some bits. It can be a bit confusing the first time but I was actually using the correct number, and this is over 3 days but the gremlins were about and things wouldn't work. Haflinger Technik made it clear that they wa...

Fax Number
Hey all; Can anyone in Australia tell me the complete fax number that I have to dial to send a message from Australia to the order department at Haflinger Technik to send my details in regards an order for parts. I have tried numbers off the web site and numbers that I have got from that company and...

Hey Gary,
That is a nice looking beast, and I bet it brings way more than the amount estimated. Is that a Haffie colour do you think?
I still haven't decided what colour I will paint mine, and I rather like this colour.
Regards Rick.

Re: Rear wheel brake cylinder applications
Hey Gary, I dealt with ABS, they have out lets all over Aus, and they have listings for all VW after market bits. I think the bits I got were for 63---68 Beetle. I suppose you need to have the new bits in one hand and the original bits in the other hand and be able to compare the shape, stud holes a...

Re: Rear wheel brake cylinder applications
Hey Mike, I did my brakes recently and all of the wheel cylinders were cactus and after pressing the pistons out I honed and then polished the cylinders and fitted a set of cups and boots into each cylinder. Its not always necessary to replace the cylinder. My rear cylinders are 19 mm which I stayed...
Re: HALLOWEEN
Hey Techmogogy, A great American tradition that I am sort of glad we haven't picked up. But surely it has its dangers as well. We have a fad here at the moment called Scarey Clown, where blokes dress up as clowns and arm themselves with generally fake knives or axes and jump out at women and kids, w...

Hey fred1141,
What a top photo, am very impressed with the load that is on board. If you have any left over after giving them away as John suggests, you could always give them to Peter as he absolutely loves them.
Regards Rick.

Re: Spring compressor.
Hey John, You are right ,with my chassis up on stands with no body or anything on it there is not enough weight to compress the springs just that bit to get it all connected up, so a compressor is needed. I made the straps for the rear, the front ones were OK, and they are the same length as origina...

Re: Do you have a Tubby Haffie?
Hey Gary, I intend to weigh mine as it goes back together. The rolling chassis is nearly done so that will be first to be done. No good taking it down to the local scrap metal bloke as his scales all weigh about 20% light. The local chook farm has got a weigh bridge so it will go there. As long as t...

Re: Tie Rod ends - joints
Hey Gary, Am just finishing off the rebuilding of my brakes, steering and suspension. I got all of the bits that I needed from ABS, an Australian franchise that does brakes, steering, suspension, transmission and tyre repairs. They are all early VW bits but not with VW numbers as they source after m...

Spring compressor.
Hey all,
Just a photo of the spring compressor that I made to refit the coil springs, shockers and the limit straps. The rear straps are made from 250 KG X 9G aviation tie down straps. I think they will be strong enough for a 700 KG vehicle.
Regards Rick.

Re: Gearbox Dipstick - Original or Modified
Hey Gary, I will use my dipstick to check my level, but I am glad there are 2 filler plugs as one of them I can hardly get to because of the muffler, shocker and radius rod all jammed into a fairly tight area. The plug on the NS of the gearbox has heaps of room around it and is easy to get to. Regar...

Re: Gearbox Dipstick - Original or Modified
Hey Gary, My Haffie is a 1968 model and has a gearbox dip stick, and a lovely little dipstick it is as well. Why it is there is beyond me. Do you fill the gearbox until the oil runs out the filler hole, then screw the plug in and then check the level with the dipstick. If the level is down on the di...

Re: Tie Rod ends - joints
Hey Gary, I am part way through rebuilding my steering and I sat and wondered the same question. The only reason I could think of is that the drag link from the steering box to the centre idler has to push and pull both sides of the steering assembly , whereas the tie rods have to push and pull only...
