Re: Tools
OK, dug up a few pics. I stole these fair and square from vehicle for sale listings. :D I believe this is a Swiss military kit. At the least it's the same as mine, but I do have a different spark plug wrench. https://photos.smugmug.com/Haflinger/i-F27d96t/0/5e08bbe9/O/422605d1327594670-non-mog-new-m...

Re: Tools
There were different varieties of tool rolls, bags, and tools. Then there are the differences between the different years, types, nationalities, etc.
I guess it comes down to how much historical accuracy you want?
For the swiss truck I have, all the kit was in a bag with a flap and a tie.

Re: Tool for forming brass hinge rods
Just going through old posts, and I read the issue about getting the proper dome on the rod. From experience, if you're using brass rod and the alloy is fracturing - you need to anneal it. Easiest way to do it, at least for me, is to heat it red, and plunge it into water. Exact opposite of ferrous a...

Re: It lives! It lives!
I've always used two fuel filters, one before the fuel pump, and one just before the carb. The tank itself doesn't look too bad inside, some rust but nowhere near the worst I've seen. I always try to keep it full of fuel, can't stand using any of the tank liners or sealants, so I depend on the fuel ...

Re: It lives! It lives!
Oh yeah, it'll get nasty I'm sure. Especially since I don't have the proper tin on it yet, still have to rework that. Our fuel here is generally pretty clean - it's not sediment that causes the blockages, but a varnish build up. We can thank our California Air Resource Board guidelines for that. If ...

It lives! It lives!
Too bad I can't figure out how to embed videos....ah well. First time running since the end of last year, a minor rebuild, and a complete redo of the engine electricals/regulator/etc. Now has a battery cutoff switch in the cab, better grounds, new(ish) regulator, rebuild starter solenoid, completely...

Re: Shift lever boot substitute or crossover?
Yeah, Garry, I've got the old boot, it's mostly in one piece. I guess I could repair it, it's definitely in better condition than the new one.
I'll probably try the RTV.

Re: Shift lever boot substitute or crossover?
I'll have to remember that technique, John. Thanks. Never thought about grease and rubber rework.
Where'd you source the NOS one?
The other thing I thought about was repairing it with regular black silicone. Rough up the rubber, alcohol prep it, and then paint on multiple layers of the silicone RTV.

Shift lever boot substitute or crossover?
Has anyone found one?
The new one I recently purchased lasted a half dozen or so throws of the lever before disassembling itself into several rings, which, while they are quite decorative, don't serve the function.
Maybe old VW?

Thanks to Steve, also!
This should also go into the documentation section, I'm thinking.

It'll be interesting to see what it brings.
Any idea what those brackets are for, on the front sides? The holy ones? Also looks like there's a tube there?

Re: WTB: Dynastarter for 1963 Swiss 700ap
It should be fine, it was pulled from a working engine. I'll be taking some photographs, and reworking the original unit while doing a comparison with the new/used one. Hopefully that'll help diagnose the issues with the old one.

Haflinger Dynastart, regulator parts listing and images
These are a couple of files that were sent to me from the Bosch Classics group, over at Bosch Karlsruhe, thanks to Mr. Jens Mangold for digging these up and providing them, he put some time into digging up the original documents and scanning them. For those of you that are, were, and are going to be...

Re: Well, the Dynastarter woes are ongoing...any ideas, folk
Good idea. I'll have to look to see what titles are out there, and pursue it that way. I can think of one offhand that might well have it, Oldtimer-markt, but since it's a low quality paper sales pub with some tech articles now and then, folks have a tendency to toss them after they're done. I'll ch...

Re: Well, the Dynastarter woes are ongoing...any ideas, folk
Oh yes, and while we're at it - has anyone got a copy of a Bosch auto electrical component repair manual that deals with rebuilding Dynastarts? Or has anyone ever seen one? I'm thinking that something printed in the early to late '60's should have some rebuild and tech info.

Re: Well, the Dynastarter woes are ongoing...any ideas, folk
Still not working. My final test was to run a direct positive to the case, and several good grounds. Still has the same issue of no torque. If it's helped along, it'll spin the belts but takes a bit of time to come up to speed. Starting from a dead stop with no help it still does nothing. I'll try t...
