Re: Unfamiliar canvas cab variant

The leather straps do line up to the loops on the windshield frame, and the leather straps don't seem particularly thick. The metal grommets on the canvas that the loops on the windshield are supposed to go into might be too thick. Maybe I can compress them with a vise. I guess it's a one-off and I'...

Re: Condensation in oil filler pipe

John and Garry, Thanks for the replies! My filler\breather pipe has never foamed like the pictures on the link show, but then again, I practically don't drive it, so maybe it might not get a chance to foam. I'm in Canada, and I started noticing this toward the end of the summer. It may have been hap...

Condensation in oil filler pipe

Is it normal to have water condensation in the oil filler pipe? I don't drive the vehicle often or far, from the storage shed to the garage, and around the building, so not really enough to warm it up to evaporate it. The oil on the dipstick looks normal, but I haven't tried draining it yet to be su...

Unfamiliar canvas cab variant

Just to stir some activity on the forum in these slow times, here's a question I've been putting off asking for a while... I haven't seen any photos of a canvas of the style that I bought on ebay this past summer. I can't get the leather straps through the loops on the windshield frame, and there is...

Clutch noise

This is probably a silly question, but I have no other way of finding an answer - is the clutch supposed to make a sound when the pedal is depressed? When I push the pedal, I can hear a continuous noise that sounds like rubbing. It's the same regardless of gear or neutral position, and only happens ...

Re: Oily spark plug

Thanks for everyone's input. What I ended up doing was adjusting the valves according to the manual and its been running fine since then on the regular plugs. Lately I've been finding B7HS plugs all over the farm here, so it must have had this issue for a long time before me. The compression seemed ...

Re: Oily spark plug

My experience with NGK plugs is that once fouled they never work properly again and will continue to foul no matter how well you clean them each time. I binned my NGK's and went one range hotter - the Haflinger now starts much better, fires on both cylinders and settles to a steady idle better than...

Re: Oily spark plug

Hi John, Thanks for the detailed reply. I do have the operator, parts and repair manuals. Since I have never taken any engine components apart, I find the repair manual too vague to go by. I am using an 80's high school auto mechanics textbook to learn about working on cars, so if my questions sound...

Re: Wiper arm substitution option?

The wiper arms on my 700 short-canvas cab Haflinger seem to have standard modern style wiper blade attachments. From what everyone is posting, I gather that these are not originals. I couldn't find any maker's marks on them at all. Wish I could say where they came from, but this vehicle is silent. T...

Re: Wiper Motor

One of the wiper motors I have are the type that Julian B showed, and there does not appear to be any self-park capability in it. One wire, labelled + on the motor body goes to the motor, the other, labelled - just stays on the body as a ground. Not sure why, because mine grounds itself out when bol...

Re: Cross reference for front flexible brake lines?

For what it's worth, I took my old Haflinger flex lines to a hydraulic place and when they heard it was for a vehicle - they wouldn't touch them. Then I took them to a local VW tuning specialist (no idea why he was recommended to me, but I had nowhere else to go), and he found me DOT approved rear l...

Oily spark plug

The left-hand side spark plug on my Haflinger is getting covered in oil, resulting in a dead cylinder. Cleaning the plug corrects this, but it gets fouled up again when left overnight. This has happened before, when I've accidentally put too much oil into the engine when refilling after a leak (stup...

Re: Canadian Haflinger owners?

That's exactly my situation. Missing registration, a '64 parts truck and a '72 restoration project. No idea why the parts truck won't run, but the chassis has nearly no solid metal left and the engine, though shiny, won't turn. I guess people in the countryside with a lot of properly didn't bother r...

Re: Canadian Haflinger owners?

I'm in the Greater Toronto Area, the vehicle itself is at the farm I work at in a town called Vaughan. I'm wondering what the typical details on the registration are and if I could somehow get them to "correct" the one for mine. It also lists it as having 00 cylinders, which I assume has m...

Re: Canadian Haflinger owners?

John, thanks for the reply and suggestion - I hadn't thought to fill out the profile. There is an office that has Ministry of Transportation officials to ask. I'm taking this registration thing slowly, as the official ownership is registered to the now-deceased former owner. So there's that to sort ...

Canadian Haflinger owners?

Are there any Haflinger owners located in Canada on this forum? I'd like for someone to share what make, model, type, etc is written in your Canadian ownership paper. My Haflinger is currently registered as a 4-wheel all-terrain vehicle with the registry, with the model written as "HALF", ...
