Re: Haflingers hard at work

Hi John - yes, an astute observation - the dumper truck would have been easier to use and unload - however access in to the area by the pond is very tight and it wouldn't have fitted through the trees. Unloading did take a bit of time and effort, but it was a nice day and I didn't mind. The cleaning...

Re: Haflingers hard at work

Haven't posted much recently as I've been busy with projects, one of which needed me to fire up the Haf and get it to work! Here it is getting loaded with turfs for transportation (the hens are only slightly less effective than me when it comes to scratching about in the dirt) https://live.staticfli...

Re: Lurch during a trial section.

Yes, sorry about the lack of video guys - I did try to get a copy but the owner didn't respond; unfortunately with my limited IT skills I can't seem to download and save a copy off of Facebook. It was a full 360 sideways roll down a bank, it landed on it's wheels with sufficient force to pop the two...

Re: Lurch during a trial section.

.. - not sure the factory one is really going to keep enough of it's shape if you do a real roll over. John Well, you're right John - I had a nasty roll the other weekend and the hoop buckled badly in the passenger corner, folding down to just above seat height. Examining it afterwards at the point...

Re: Poor Lurch - Engine making horrible noises!

Excellent! You'll be delighted at getting it running again - pleased for you. Mine doesn't have the rubber seals around the tinware and I wasn't bothered about it until I did a couple of miles on a dusty road and noticed that my secondary air filter was well clogged with dust and debris; all over th...

Re: Poor Lurch - Engine making horrible noises!

Did you get a carb with it John or are you using the one fitted to your original engine? It's not much bigger at 700cc but the carburation may be slightly different from standard depending on compression, etc. Just something to bear in mind if it doesn't run right. I'm interested to know if you noti...

^^^ Feel for you John! Unfortunately I'm not in a position to offer you any advice, help or parts, but hope things work out for the best.

Never a dull moment with Haflinger ownership; at least you're becoming even more knowledgeable!

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Another monthly club event this Sunday just passed, this one about 20 miles outside Inverness in a scenic moorland area called Whitebridge. We've being using this bit of land for a while, mostly for trials; this was more of a challenge event where you had to find a dozen canes with different colour ...

... but I guess I forgot to do some essential checks before setting off. Sorry to hear John, that's more than a bit frustrating. What essential checks did you forget to do - have you since found that the oil level was low? If you had good oil pressure I would think it unlikely to be the big-ends. F...

Re: Haflingers hard at work

We're having a lovely summer this year with mild temperatures and dry days - however winter and the colder weather is never too far away, so 'making hay while the sun shines' it seemed a good time to go out and do a bit of foraging. The forest next to our home was recently felled and there are a lot...

It was a damned hot day (30 deg C) and the Haflinger didn't like the heat; That is not a hot day  - late winter early spring temps. ;) Hey Garry, it's all relative! - we've had quite unbelievable weather here the last few weeks, temperatures in the mid twenties up to about thirty deg C. Doesn’t anyone complain at the mess you make when you get stuck? John When I get stuck!!! Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

What's that old saying - pride comes before a fall? It was the big Gairloch 'Get to the top of the hill, or bust a diff trying' weekend and the Haflinger was in its element, tip-toeing casually around and over the bogs where the bigger boys in their V-8 40'' tyred monsters were floundering in the mi...

Re: Lurch during a trial section.

Just something to bear in mind John - if you use heavier wall tube it will increase the overall weight and raise your centre of gravity, which will increase the potential for it to fall on its side! If you don't triangulate the hoops or cross-brace them, unless they're large diameter/heavy wall they...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Another end of month trial, this time in glorious weather. This trial took place about 40 miles south of Inverness in a quiet area of the hills just off the main carriageway. Not a huge turnout for this one, but with the good weather people often have other activities taking up their weekend time. T...

Nice update John - glad that Lurch got you there and back safely; fair play to you for doing all these road miles - I love my Haflinger, but the thought of doing several hundred road miles in it doesn't hold much attraction! Sounds like an adventure though, particularly your run-in with the cops - t...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Did another trial last weekend - the weather was glorious (for a change!), warm and sunny, not too hot. There wasn't a huge turnout, about 7 vehicles in total - this course is quite rough with lots of hidden rocks in the long grass which led to a few retiring with breakages. Happily, apart from a fe...
