Re: Rear hoop is coming out OK, I think...
Yah, good ideas folks. The paulin will be made from a heavy vinyl reinforced one I have left over from my old M35A2 6x6, sold it a bit ago. It's designed, and heavy enough, that it goes over sharp edges with very little wear, and there's a decent radius on that square tube even though it doesn't loo...

Rear hoop is coming out OK, I think...
Decided I wanted to add a full fabric top to the Swiss 700AP, but I also wanted it to be a but sturdier than stock. It's not done yet, I'll be adding some swinging sideboards onto it, and capping off the open tubes, but so far it looks like it'll work fine. If anyone's interested I can throw some bu...

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?
Yah, I think you guys are already doomed, American advertising agencies are in league with the devil, there's not much stopping them. Good point about the springs. I guess between the straps, and the shocks, both of those are limits to the amount of droop. On a related note, my experiment with wider...

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?
Black Friday is a marketing come on method in the U.S.A.. It's the day after Thanksgiving Day, and the day that many businesses give sizable discounts for their products. Fights, riots, beatings in the malls generally ensue. Great fun to spectate. So - there's Black Friday, Small Business Sunday (yo...

Re: What did you do with your Haflinger today?
Jhon - so at that point, is it the dampers that are the travel restriction, or is the restriction inherent in the axle/transmission link? When I made my new cable limit straps to replace the old broken ones, I thought about making them longer, but I figured that the amount of travel that the designe...

Re: Strange Gearbox / Diff issue.
That's a strange one. I kind of agree with the brake shoe idea, nothing else really makes sense. Stalling out only in reverse...either that or maybe one of the springs holding a shoe has broken, allowing the shoe to cant inside the drum? One thing I've had to do lately, somewhat related, is sometime...

Yesterday, today and tomorrow, welding up a rear hoop to hold a full top, then I'm going to grab one of my surplus 5 Tonner paulins, cut it up a bit and figure out grommets, tie downs, and make a top for the truck.

Re: Lurch during a trial section.
Water works, but it's not that dense. I've actually thought that if I go on more solo runs, I might build a form and pour a couple of 80# pieces of concrete that will fit tightly into the foot well. 80#, these days, is about all I want to easily lift without hurting something that'll take years to h...

Re: Lurch during a trial section.
Nice pic, glad you had fun.
When I went on the 2017 Calico Mogfest there were a couple of instances that had the same thing happen.
I think when I'm going out and have no co-driver, I'll be putting about 200# of filled sandbags in the passenger foot well.
Do they allow chains in your event?

Re: fuel tank, resto or not..
I'd vote for cleaning it of the rust and paint, then you'll be able to assess things better. Blast the outside, do the sand/gravel/citric acid or phosphoric acid. See where you're at, if it's repairable do the welds and brazing, have a radiator shop coat the inside of the tank. Jim L. repaired mine ...

Re: Update on the Black Diamond ATV tires...
Yep, I was hoping that Jim L., at least would be there. I owe him an exhaust manifold too, but alas, he wasn't there. It would have been a great thing to have had a comparison. I'll dig up some more pics, but I'll upload to another pic site and do a link to them, it'll be faster that way. I should h...

Update on the Black Diamond ATV tires...
As is seen in my signature, I'm running these tires continuously on both street and dirt. We had a Unimog and other euro vehicle treffen in Calico, California this last weekend and I brought the Haflinger. Over a period of three days, I ran approximately 20 miles on tarmac, and a bit over 30 miles o...

Re: Calico Mogfest coming up..October 13-15
Thanks, there are many more pics, but mine kind of stink. I was busy driving. I'll post some more up in a bit, but there were other attendees also shooting video, maybe some of that will show up. I, too, really like to see the different landscapes and activities. Always fun to see what other folks a...

Re: Calico Mogfest coming up..October 13-15
Was a great meet, terrific to see old friends there. Unfortunately, I brought the only Haf there, but maybe next year there will be more. Still had lots of fun, ran it a bit over 70 kilometers in two days with absolutely no issues, kept up with the entire bunch of mogs, pinzs, etc no issues. 2017101...

Re: For a military 700AP - anyone know the CG?
Thanks John, Yes I was trying to make it a bit easier than doing the empirical path. For U.S. military vehicles, it's easy to find sling load data and CG data. All of them have data plaques installed that clearly shows the figures, but I'll bet for the RAF model of Haffy that data is out there. Has ...

For a military 700AP - anyone know the CG?
I'm sure that for the RAF models, and some others, there were Center of Gravity figures that were researched. Does anyone have them for a 700AP? I'm trying to figure out some trailer loadings prior to hacking on the trailer and modifying it, but if it comes down to it I'll just use empirical methods...
