Re: Is the Forum Dying

Garry, Quite the contrary! This forum shows no evidence of fading away. There may be lulls in activity from time to time based on seasonal factors as well as other priorities in our collective lives. Personally, my career has taken a whole new and exciting direction that has my time tied up quite ex...

Re: Clunk in the Drivetrain

Garry, According to the parts manual, there is only one version of the front and rear differentials respectively. All used a pair of connecting blocks ("stones" P/N: 501.1.3474). One could certainly modify the original design by replacing the square blocks with either a slip-on collar/bush...

Re: Yay....first issue: Carb float cracked, full of fuel

Hello to all, A couple of years ago, a friend purchased a very nice 1968 Swiss 700AP. In the box of spares that came with the truck two piece molded form fitting case for a replacement float assembly for the stock Weber 32ICS. The manufacture's logo was embossed into the case. Inside was a brand new...

Re: Electric Haflinger

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFFxiDQH3TA More than a decade ago, an electric vehicle group out of Port Townsend, Washington converted a Series Land rover and demonstrated its capabilities at Moab, Utah. As I remember, they towed a small trailer with a Genset and could recharge on the go as needed...

Re: Electric Haflinger

A few years back (2008-2009), I had looked into converting a Haflinger to electric using the PMG132 motor. http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/EMS-PMG132.html The challenge in to build a shaft mounted flange that would exactly mimic the front of the Haflinger motor's crankshaft front face. I wa...

Re: Northwest MogFest 2015

Hello to all. Three weeks out and all is coming together nicely. Given the RSVPs thus far, we will have more Haflingers present this year than any previous NWMF event. The Steyr-Puch presence in the form of Haflingers, Pinzgauers, Vanagon Syncros and G-wagens is wuite impressive. Looking forward to ...

Re: Low compression

Garry, Thanks for the measurement differences in the bottoms of the two cylinders. I am aware that the cases would have to be machined open to allow the larger cylinders to mate with the case. Shimming with some sort of spacer ring would seem the least expensive option if you were to use existing mo...

Re: Drivetrain Rattle in Neutral.

Garry, The question arose earlier in this thread about clutch cable length. SDP made four different cable lengths depending on the specific model. 700.1.26.022.2 for Typ 700 LHD 2215mm 703.1.26.002.2 for Typ 703 LHD 2515mm 700.1.26.125.2 for Typ 700 RHD 2275mm 703.1.26.011.2 for Typ 703 RHD 2575mm A...

Garry, Have you considered using this unfortunate situation as an opportunity to return the motor back towards functioning within its original design parameters? Original displacement pistons/rings/cylinders are available. The apparent extremely short lifespan of the originally VW-intended parts doe...

Re: Sorry to say - another nail in the SPD coffin.

Steve, Your first hand Haflinger experience predates mine by a decade. You are a very lucky fellow. When I first drove a brand new Haflinger in early 1973, I knew this little truck was an extremely well designed and well made piece of equipment. One need only read the ample news accounts, magazine a...

Re: Sorry to say - another nail in the SPD coffin.

Wouldn't life be grand if only SDP had followed the lead of Land Rover in building Series body panels out of aluminum? But wait. Their bulkheads were made of steel...that rusts horribly. And, as far as the venerable box frame idea, if these are so magnificent, why in the world would vintage Series L...
