Re: New guy with a silly question....

Hi Ryan, I'd love to know the story behind only one colour for Canada. I suppose that's one of the Haflinger mysteries that we may never find an answer for. There was a few in municipal service in Quebec that were repainted when new as an ugly orange-yellow colour but the original red was still unde...

Re: New guy with a silly question....

Hi Mike, Thanks for the update. It's quite likely that the steering shaft mounted ignition switch and dimmer switch move to the signal light lever did not happen until late production Pathfinders. As with all Haflingers, little changes occurred often and we're not well documented, especially in the ...

Re: New guy with a silly question....

My understanding is that the name Pathfinder was originally aimed at the North American market Hi Julian, Actually, the original name proposed for the North American spec trucks was "Heaver" (thanks Constantin). Praise to the gods that this name was not adopted as, for us North Americans,...

Re: 1969 Haflinger 700AP

Yes, two would be ideal, but I am concentrating on just the one that actually has a number plate. The other one has no number plate as far as I am told, but I won't really have much to go on until they actually get to Oregon and I can poke around some more and maybe find a VIN stamped somewhere on ...

Hi RPower,
Did you get your trucks from Surrey, BC (Canada)?

Re: New guy with a silly question....

Here is a table I put together showing the notable differences between the US Pathfinder and Canadian spec Haflingers. Constantin shows many of these items on his website under the Countries section.

Steve

Re: 1969 Haflinger 700AP

My first Haflinger! He's going to be making the trip to his new home, my home Hi RPower, Welcome to the Haflinger community. That's a great looking pair of Canadian pattern Haflingers you found. Where is "home" for you? I fully restored my 1969 Canadian Haflinger (finished 3 years ago). L...

Re: New guy with a silly question....

The "Pathfinder" title and badge only applies to the '71 & '72 models built for the USA. The Canadian trucks are significantly different.

Re: Front End Knock

Hi Garry, I think your "clunk" is very probably in the CV joint. A CV joint from one of my Haflingers that I got for parts had a joint that looked really good but would bind up when power was applied under a slight turn. It seemed fine when traveling straight or near full lock. With the jo...

Re: Reproduction Dataplate & Placards

Hi Julian, Thanks for the kind compliments. I shant share your post with my wife as my "perfectionist" (maybe OCD) character with all things Haflinger doesn't carry over to household duties and that drives her nuts  . As I've mentioned before, your truck looks fantastic! Keep up the g...

Re: Engine Died

Hi Garry,
I'd be willing to bet that when the original engine gave out its cam and crankshaft got ruined. The owner likely had or found the older engine so used what was on hand to rebuild the newer engine cases. Likely nothing more technical than that.
Cheers,
Steve

my engine has a No2 camshaft which is out of a very early engine not the later engine I have - any ideas why? and what are the characteristics of the different cam numbers Hi Garry, I had some discussion about the #2, #3 & #5 camshaft profiles a while back with Constantin. About all we know is ...

Re: Haflinger "Pathfinder" Lucas reflector.

Over on The Real 4x4's group, "TechMOGogy" (Dan, who also owns a Pathfinder) identified the reflector as being used on the quarter panels of the Triumph Spitfire Mk3. Lucas service part# 54578496 Hi Mike, It looks like Triumph only used them on the Spitfire Mk3 in 1969 as none of the othe...

Re: Haflinger "Pathfinder" Lucas reflector.

UPDATE- I found a UK dealer website that shows the Lucas reflector used on a 1970 Morgan Plus 4 and they have stock on hand of these reflector parts. I've sent an email asking for more details.

Re: Haflinger "Pathfinder" Lucas reflector.

I am still looking for the vehicle(s) they were fitted to. John Hi John, If you have a source of info for Morgan cars try the earlier Plus 4 model. Here's a photo of a 1985 with reflectors below the red brake lamp that looks very similar. The newer Morgan Plus 8 also has these but seem to have expo...

Re: Haflinger "Pathfinder" Lucas reflector.

Hi Mike & John, Although found on the Pathfinder's rear taillight panel, I think Mike's reflector is also part of the assembly of a Lucas L841 side marker light used on US Pathfinders. It is available as individual parts from RDS Parts in New Orleans, LA-USA. Here's a photo of the parts breakdow...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder - Fluid Inlet

Hi Julian & Garry, I got a master cylinder from NAPA for a 1965 VW Beetle. The MC was made by FTE in Germany and it included a stop light switch and threaded brass plug for the extra hole at the back. I think the cost 5 years ago was $29.95 CDN. I used the rubber "bung" that is origina...

- the green looks a little greener though.
Hi Garry,
I agree that the green is "a little greener" than how it appears in my photo. Chalk it up to lighting conditions, camera angle, etc.
Sorry, I don't have a color code or name for the badge's green hue.
Cheers,
Steve
