Re: Shuush The Little Haffies Are Sleeping

Hi John I hope you are well. My brakes are OK but I have oil on one of the rear brakes so the car pull right under heavy braking so was thinking of doing a full overall. Yes brakes are not great overall and I was thinking of putting an electric brake booster on - these are cheap and work really well...

Re: Shuush The Little Haffies Are Sleeping

Everything has all gone quiet again - better speak softly so not to wake sleeping Haffies. Nothing changed on my vehicle - just starts and goes and runs fine. Things I want to do are redo the brakes, change the lights to LEDs with LED spotties, install a removable winch for offroad use, put on a lar...

Re: 600 miles.

One of the maintenance issues I have with my vehicle is the tappets closing up over time and impacting exhaust hydrocarbons and engine performance. Is just a pain removing rocker covers and adjusting them - then getting the covers back on and not leaking.

Of course is totally illegal under Australia's Consumer laws - but are hard to get enforced - easier to do what they ask and get the quote.

Re: Zenith carb not idling

The needles in the pic are the Porsche ones - the Haflinger ones have a smaller diameter knurled end - doesn't matter though as the needle itself is the same.

Re: Zenith carb not idling

The other issue is that people screw in the idle needles far too hard and this causes the ends to deform or ridges form - which changes the shape inside the carb. I suggest you puy new needles and put them in - - they only screw in until they stop - no further. You might be able to get just the need...

Dave, Not sure what post you saw but I just posted this information on this thread http://thehaflinger.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3841&p=14705#p14705 a couple of days ago - tells you how to do it. However I doubt this will fix your problem as this mixture setting is for idle. Wet plugs normall...

Yes as John indicated - for day to day use the handbook is more useful.

Re: Lurch in need of a transplant

So did you consider putting Lurch on the bonfire?? :o

I think you will find the standard exhaust is tuned with the passenger side being a tuned multiple of the shorter drivers side.

I find this procedure in the user manual works well.

Re: Lurch in need of a transplant

Hi John - I hope this all goes well - after two engine rebuilds I know what a pain it can be. If you are going to do away with your exhaust heating system why not just install the standard non heating system. Exhaust from passenger cylinder runs across under the engine an joins a short pipe from the...

Re: Front Suspension Arm Fulcrum O Rings

Thanks John - I will try normal 0 rings and see how I go. There did not seem to be much wear on the pins or the housing so maybe fresh o rings will help.

Cheers

Front Suspension Arm Fulcrum O Rings

As we all should know the suspension fulcrum pins are lubricated from the diff oil through little holes - to prevent leaks there are o rings either side of the hole in the fulcrum pin. If I remember correctly these o rings have a square cross section but I cannot recall. A few years back when I rebu...

Re: Brand NEW Semprit style tyres are now available!

Thanks - I guess the price of the tyres is not too bad (130euro is about $200AUD) as they are so hard to find - but shipping will be as much as the cost of the tyres.

Re: Hemi the Haff.

In my experience with a few cars now, unless you can guarantee day to day dedication to the task do not strip a vehicle down - do running repairs etc as required - if motivation is lost you only have to fix one or two little things and get out for some enjoyment - for most people not a lot of enjoym...

Re: road trip from hell

I am not sure I would want a current Ranger as their reliability reputation seems to be worse than a LR. The new Ranger is a joint venture between what is left of Ford Australia and VW - the next gen Ranger and the next gen VW Amorak are basically the same vehicle but not sure if based on the Amorak...

Re: road trip from hell

The Ingenium engine did have a reputation for fuel dilution of the engine oil. Supposedly fixed. You would have a case for a replacement under the consumer law but the issue is that to enforce the law you need to take LR to court with all the issues and stress that entails. As far as insurances go -...

Re: road trip from hell

Dave - I would say you have LEDs in your caravan and landrovers are set up to use incandescent globes in the trailer - these provide the resistance to activate the towing programme in the vehicle. Hence the pulsing in the trailer - as you have indicated you needed a pulse buster - I made my own for ...
