Exhaust system for AP703 with heat exchangers

I broke the exhaust pipe that goes under the engine from one heat exchanger to the other and then out to the silencer taking part in a "punch hunt" yesterday. Basically, the pipe was very thin and rusty and catching it on a tree stump just ripped and twisted it beyond saving.

So has any one got a good secondhand one or any other options they care to share?

Lurch runs, but is very loud and has no power due to the miss-matched exhausts.

What I would really like is a way of getting the silencer up out of the way, as the one I broke was actually below the level of the sump guard so I am not really surprised it got caught, only that it has taken this long to get so broken it is not worth fixing!!

Cant help with the question sorry as I do not have the heat exchangers.

I agree, with your muffler hanging down that low, given what you have been doing I am surprised it has lasted this long. I thought in the OEM setup the heat exchanger and the muffler were all in one and basically went in the same position as the non head exchanger muffler up out of the way.

I guess going back to the OEM system and doing away with that muffler you have would be quite expensive.

Hi Gary,

Actually, the only thing that is different on Lurch from the OEM system is the final silencer box - last owners just put a small modern back box on in place of the original flat "pancake" one. Even that, as far as I can tell, hung a bit below the sump guard rails. The heat exchangers fit up in the position of the other non-heat exchanger silencer box (on both sides), but then the silencer has been moved to underneath....

I have taken it off before whilst "offroading", but only by catching the tip and it just pulled off the pipe, so it was easy to put back in place at that time, also the metal that makes up the exhaust pipes was that much thicker then = now it is rusty and paper thin!

I saw the section of pipe for sale from somewhere in eastern Europe but at nearly £200 for a length of pipe 2 1/2 foot long that seems like a lot of money!
So I might spend half that buying a hydraulic pipe bender and buying lots of pipe to practice on! I could also then use the pipe bender to make up a two Pole roll cage to go just behind the Cab.

Got some prices and it makes more sense for me to build my own variation of the exhaust system, so unless someone comes up with a deal soon, I shall attack the exhaust system this coming weekend.

Go for it John, pipe benders are a use full piece of kit, we have one and made things such as bumpers, exhausts, roof racks
roll bars etc keep us posted how you get on Pete
