Which gear has the most torque?

Post by heinkeljb »

I currently don't have access to any of my Haflinger books, so can any one tell me which gear ratio is lower:-

5 speed gearbox

1st (Krawler) or Reverse?

I was wondering (as you do) which would be the best way of pulling another vehicle out of a stuck position. Nose in first and reversing or backing up and driving forward?

Have you hit the "DONATE" button at the bottom of the page after reading this post? Many thanks if you have!!

A July 1962 Repair Manual shows
  • (Crawler gear 7.55)
    1st gear 3.73
    2nd gear 2.18
    3rd gear 1.21
    4th gear 0.71 (0.68)
    reverse gear 3.55
I take it that the numbers in brackets are for the 5 speed box.
