First rule of computing - have a backup on another hard drive - I do mine once a week every Sunday night.

I assume you have been through the forum and recovered any you have posted - likewise do a google search of "haflinger pics" and you may find many of the pics you have put online any where.

Good luck

Depending on what has actually gone wrong with the external drive, you may be able to recover some items. I don't know if the computer shop you took it to actually took the drive out of the caddy or not. In a lot of cases, the fault is in the USB portion of the caddy rather than in the drive itself. If this is the case, then connecting the drive up with a direct SATA connection might enable you to access all your documents / photos etc.

If the drive has actually failed, but it is a software failure, then a program like the free "TESTDISK" one might allow you to recover data.

If the drive is physically damaged and fails as a result, it might still be possible to recover data by using a specialist data recovery firm. Unfortunately, these tend to be very expensive.
