Where are the Continental Europeans?

Post by AustHaflinger »

As far as Haffies are concerned I follow this forum and the Real 4x4 Forum. The Real 4x4 forum is Northern American focussed but also has membership from all over the world but lacks input from Continental Europeans.

Likewise this great forum has big blocks of active members from the US, Canada, UK and Australia with an occasional thread from France, Italy and Austria. (not forgetting Markus our fearless leader of course from Swiss)

Given that the vehicles come from Austria and the greatest populations of the vehicles still live there and maybe Germany, where are all these owners posting and why not here and on Real 4x4. I watch Youtube vids of Treffens and there are clearly hordes of people from this part of the world using these vehicles and it would seem a lot of their experiences and knowledge are being missed by others.

For sure there may be a language issue as these forums are english based, but so are many other forums and they work.

So where are the Continental Europeans? :)

Good question - but probably a language issue? The only place that I know a few continental Europeans (and others) hang out is a Facebook group ("Steyr-Puch Haflinger") - it is a "closed" group but they are very welcoming to new members. The predominant language is english.

I use FB as little as possible these days as I have a few "issues" with it, but the group is quite active & interesting.

I came across this place, although I am having trouble signing up to it. http://pinzforum.kiruna.de/index.php

Doesn't seem very active in the Haflinger section.

Aware of some of the Yahoo groups as I was on them prior to this forum starting up. There wasn't a lot of posts on them back then ans still not a lot. Maybe with local clubs in the area, those members get and share information through their local clubs.

Good evening,
I'm one of them you searching for .. ;)
Some of the points why the europiens are missing I think here are already listed.
Most common cause is the language, of course
Secound is the variety of possibilities to get informations on the german speaking part of the Internet.
Third point is the Age of a big part of the Haflinger owners. Most of them don't do much on the Internet.
They have contacts by phone or near around (mostly the austrians I think)

The main places to get Information in the german speaking area for me is

1. Robi's Pinzgauer Forum ( http://pinzforum.kiruna.de/index.php )
2. Constantin's Website haflingereins.com ( http://haflingereins.com/forums/ )

I visit the rest of the known platforms sporadicly (so today) because of lack of the english language.
or simply beeing lazy translating ... or (very) sometimes because I don't get an answer on an german speaking Platform.

We have the same "Problems" with the eg. French People. The have a big Pinzgauer Scene, but the don't go to
german speaking Forum.

So missing peolpe from some countries is not only an off European Problem

Thanks Stefan for you very relevant reply.

I can understand the language issue - I have the reverse problem when searching the Austrian and German parts sites looking for parts. Unfortunately the translators do not work as well as they should.

The point you raise about the age of people is quite relevant in the classic car movement - we have the same issue with car clubs here in Australia. I am a member of three local car clubs and the majority of members are older but sadly many also have an older persons outlook as well. Some are young at heart and these are a pleasure to interact with but it does mean that younger types are reluctant to get involved - in a Military Club I was involved in only half the members had email addresses.

Thank you for your insight and I hope you will encourage Haflinger owners to join and contribute to the forum. I will also do the same and join the ones listed above.

Cheers

I have just tried to register at the following web site (http://haflingereins.com/forums/) and the user registration system has been disabled by the Administrator!

So I can only look at posts on there, but not join in.... :(
