Thanks for posting - I wonder how they went in the water - when designing the engine, water crossings were obviously not a consideration as the dissy is too low and spark plugs low down.

So John you going to ad pics of your trials so that in 50 years time they can be viewed by interested viewers. :)

I do add pictures! Problem is that as I am driving I can't take pictures from the outside but I do take video from inside (when I remember to turn the camera on)!

I need to get some more hi-tech which can be set up to watch the course and take pictures / video that way. Not always possible to get some bystander to take pictures for you. If any do, then I ask them to send me the pictures or to post them up some where and tell me where.
I thought about a drone than can follow you, but usually there are too many trees so that wouldn't work.

John

Some blurb that was posted along with some of the photos - I have shamelessly just copied it!

re Chris Bashall's fetish with Halflingers the UK importers (Steyr Daimler Puch) based in Nottingham entered 3 vehicles for pilot Hillrally in May 1971 with a fourth entered privately by David Garner (Ashby de la Zouch (44). 41 was driven by Dave Watts (Barnstaple), 42 HQ entered no driver listed, 43 Angus Sowter MD of UK SDP. 44 was sold to John Sprinzel (international rally driver) for the International event in September 71 which was retired after numerous inversions. W Andrew Davidson (Beale, Northumberland) modified various Haflingers with enlarged engines and larger wheel rims / tyres which went quite quickly. There was a twin engined version entered in Rallye des Cimes in Pyrennees by an Austrian garage owner which was virtually unstoppable. SDP loaned a vehicle for Hillrally recce work in 1972 in hope of promoting the vehicle to Welsh hill farmers. Named after an Austrian mountain goat it was incredibly manoeuvrable on ancient Welsh tracks.

Some great photos John, thanks for posting. Would love to know more about the vehicle above - I wonder where it is now?
