Hi Guys,

Thought that I would post a few photos of my Haflinger's progress.

How much of a rebuild are you doing? Just body off and re-spray (lucky you have enough room to make a spray booth)?

Or are you going to pull the whole running gear to pieces?

Looking good so far in any case....

The idea for now is to do the body off dulux overhaul, hub seals, carby kit, and anything that needs attention. Front seats need re-upholstering and rare seats need to be made. Sear belts, new headlights and probably a full canopy. Alloy rims and off road tyres to be found as well. Get it going for registration and the see what needs to be done to the engine. I bought it several years ago in pieces and not sure of how it runs. The daughter wants me to take her to her high school formal in it at the end of the year. A lot to do between working, fishing and shooting but between her and the wife they try to keep me motivated. At times I wish I found one complete and ready to go but then there is no fun in working out how they run.
Time to get back to the shed to put another undercoat on the body.

Many years ago I attended a private school and my father would always turn up to the annual Sports Day picnic in his 1972 LWB - everyone else arrived in their "posh" cars, but my father was always enjoyed being a bit of a rebel ...

Just remember to take a set of steps with you so she can climb in and out! There is no elegant way of getting into a Haflinger in a Prom dress!

Also, don't drive it across the school lawn, they won't like it!

I don't have to worry about the lawn at the school, the function is going to be held at the local casino so I might just drive up the steps and let her out at the top instead.

No need to worry, it will only get to Cat 1 by the predictions. This house and shed have gone thru a Cat 2/3 without any problems. Just have to get the fridge full before close of business Thursday.

Well that looks as if it is coming along nicely.

Looks very good Doug. Your comment "body and front attached" reminds me how much Steyr Puch improved the Haflinger from the early ones when they made the front and all of the underslung boxes detachable. On mine only the fuel tank comes off and this makes everything much harder to paint etc.

Latest update is the Narva Halogen headlight conversion and home made headlight guards. Will be using 55w/65w H4 bulbs for now as I will be replacing all the other lights with LED's to suit. This should keep my current usage down below maximum.

The original owner must have replaced the headlights years ago. He took the lights apart, cut out parts in the reflector to house the new lights and clamped them in with the alloy ring. I cleaned the reflectors up and made them fit the new lights better and again held them in with the alloy rings.

The headlight protectors are made from mild steel rod and plate from the local hardware shop and bent and welded to shape.

As you can see in the third photo, the wiring loom and dash hasn't made it into the body yet.

So what's the latest news on the rebuild? Do the electrics work now?

Not much more progress. Trying to work out where all the wires go onto the back of the dash. A bit of confusion with the wiring diagrams but I'm trying to work that out this weekend. Sending more miscellaneous pieces to the sand blaster on Monday to get cleaned up and primed. I don't think that the daughter will be going to her formal in the haf, probably the Hyundai or Mazda instead.

I have seen 4 different wiring diagrams for Haflingers and none match Lurch's electrics exactly! So you will probably end up combining them to make one that fits yours.
