Hi All,

I'm from Zululand, South Africa and have a '62 Series 1 SWB Haflinger 700 (Chassis / Gearbox No: CF 5352174 Engine No: 5359186) that I began stripping down and rebuilding in Nov 2010 but lost impetus after a couple of years and its been sitting under a dust-cover. It has many non-original parts (including body, seats and wheels) and my aim is to get it reliably running again to use as a farm runabout (restoration purists will have to avert their eyes from the pics below).

Hi Andrew, welcome to the forum, and enjoy the re-furb of your Haflinger. I can imagine that it would be an idea machine for Zululand!

I also have a 1962 SWB - in fact it has a chassis number just 27 vehicles away from yours - mine is 5352147

Other than having to deal with lots of punctures due to thorns. The Haflinger should be fun to use on a farm. Looking at the pictures, you only really have to sort the drive train.

You're the one that has to live with it, so if you don't mind the non-original parts on it, what does it matter to anyone else? You might want to think about a canvas roof, if only to keep the sun off!

Post some more picture of it out and about doing what it is supposed to.

Well, it looks more finished than it is; here are some more pics of the refurb it has received thus far:

I notice you have swapped the HT leads round on the distributor cap. First picture shows left hand cylinder connected to nearest tower on distributor cap, last picture shows them the other way round!

Mine runs well with the leads set up like you first picture, but I have seen lots set up like your last picture.... go figure!

G,,day . i always set them as left of distributer cap to left cylinder .
it just seems more logical .
it makes no difference to the motor .
