Hello, I recently came into possession of a few Haffies that need some work to get them up to scratch and have started on the process of getting them done.
1st is the early series 1 that has gone through a few hands over the years.
Second will be a series 2.
Both have running engines after a little bit of fiddling but need a clean up and new seals and gaskets to stop oil leaks.
Strangely the engine and gear box numbers do not match the data plate on the series 2.
Series 1 does not have a data plate at all but it looks like the engine may be a later version with a later engine number and it has a spin on oil filter setup but retains the weber manifold and carby, and has a 160mm clutch.
Series 1 progress so far.
New Australian.
Re: New Australian.
A lot of parts are interchangable between all the versions of Haflingers. More than likely, the series 1 and the series 2 had engine failures at a time when it was easlier to get a replacement engine than to try and rebuild the existing ones. Likely at the same time they got a "new" gearbox which, would explain why the numbers on both do not match the data plate on the bodywork.
The spin on oil filter is a part that can be swapped between engines as it uses exactly the same mouning points. In some ways it is a better filtration system than the old seperate filter and cover version and in others not as good. You are more likely to find a suitable spin on filter now-a-days from your "local" motor factors than the seperate filter, but the seriers 1 would have had the seperate filter and cover system if you want originality.

Re: New Australian.
Nice that the Series 1 has a PTO drive (as evidenced by the cover in the load bay) - something that I would love to have.
