Haflinger of many colours

I had some interesting photos given this week, I was talking to my friend Tony from whom I purchased my haf from and who has helped me with the rebuild,Tony has a full workshop and he has done quite a lot of work on haflingers in the past (more to follow) if he knew what the original rego number was ,as it was not registered when I purchased it. He showed me some photos which I have had copied. The original owner converted it into a camper van, when Tony acquired it he removed the camper back as it was rotting away , he then painted it green. It stayed that way until I purchased it and decided to do the full rebuild. The engine is nearly finished so I will post some up to date photos when its up and running.

Thanks for posting Dave - not sure I like the camper but different things for different people.

Any idea of the wheels and tyres on the first pic - also I am thinking of putting some sort of aftermarket seats like it has - I am finding the upright seating position is a bit painful on my back.

Cheers

Garry

More photos of Tonys other rebuilds, this was approx 30 years ago. The 2 wreckers were purchased from a mine near Weipa (AUS) the rest are of the 2 hafs during rebuild and completion. Tony advised me he put a Toyota air cooled engine in the red haf, he later sold them both. We later found the red one on a farm in Cairns in irreparable condition, he recognized it with the side panels and other parts he had repaired. The engine was missing and it is not known what happened to it.

Any other pictures of the brown one? Looks like only the very front of the red one was kept and all the rest of the platform replaced.
Any other details on the Toyota engine which was fitted? The grill on the back rather covers things up. Judging by the tow bar supports, you have to remove them and the grill to be able to access any part of the engine you could not reach from the top in much the same way as a standard Haflinger, except it looks like more effort would be required.

I purchased the Chocolate/Cream one from the dealer when Tony traded it in. I had it for several years and finally on a 100 acre property in Northern NSW. I rebuilt the engine back to as new. It was just a gem. I sold it in the middle of a disasterous divorce, and am now trying to track it down to re-purchase for my retirement. Refer my postings http://thehaflinger.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=814
Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Dale

I think this is probably the Toyota engine type that was used:-

It looks like it would fit and power is about right, age is about right.

I was visiting Tony this morning and he showed me this engine that was similar to the one fitted to the Haflinger he converted.

Shame it's probably more rare than the original engine!

looks like it was a decent conversion.
