In case anyone is interested:-

Will be happening April 26 /27 in Einddhovensedijk 35, NL - 5688 GN Oirschot
There is no web site as far as I know, but I do have an email contact address if required.

I am intending to drive Lurch there and back if anyone else is interested. Yes, I know it will be a long drive but at a speed where you see more of what's around you! Also it is a experience which most do not have.

Hmmm - I wonder if I could drive my Haffie there from Canberra. When I fix the bearing noise in my Haffie I could probably make it :)

A fair few oil changes along the way then!

Lurch is ready, just need to pack things into waterproof plastic tubs. Pack and strap them on the back and head for the ferry port on Thursday evening.

How far is it there = road distance? I suppose most is on the ferry.

It is about 100km to get to the UK end of the ferry and then a further 300km to get to the Treffen from Calais. John is a braver man than me, as I'm taking the easy option and using a trailer to take mine  ;)

[The ferry bit is only ~35km ...]

The only real bummer is that the Dutch have a "minimum" speed restriction on their motorways which is 70kph - just a bit too high for Haflinger over a long period of time. So we are going to have to go on local roads with all the traffic and traffic lights, roundabouts, junctions etc, which will kill our average speed. Just means it will take longer to get there!
First part to the ferry will in the dark, but with my new lights will like driving in the day time!

John - it is not all bad; one of the joys of a Haflinger is that you rediscover the joys of the open road - there is never anything in front of you to spoil the view 8-)

I assume you are leaving from Dover - why not catch a ferry to the Netherlands?

Gary,

Ferry to Netherlands from Dover died a long time ago! You can get there from Harwich, but that just means doing the driving in the UK instead of on the continent!

Driving to the Treffen would be the 'main event' IMHO :-) I really enjoy road trips in slow vehicles.

I'll leave it to John to bring us up to date on his epic journey to the 6th Dutch Haflinger Meeting, but it was a superb event and one that was, I am sure, enjoyed by all. 20 Hafs attended, albeit with two that failed to either make the start or make the 2nd day. We had attendees from the Netherlands, German, Austria, Belgium, France and the UK !

Great fun, many laughs and some superb food made for a truly memorable weekend. Huge thanks to the organisers too. :D

I'll add some more photos later today - but here is one that will give a clue to the host country! :D

Here are a few more snaps that give you an idea of the turnout. We drove our Haflingers ~135 miles (/~215km) over the 2 days, with perhaps 40% off road. No rough terrain, but lots of really fun dirt tracks etc.

Many thanks must go to the main organisers, Christopher, Karen, Stefan & Jaap(?) who did a _superb_ job !!!

John,

How did you get on with your journey, or are you at the Chiropractor?

How did Lurch perform,

Julian,

Great pictures, looks like a good time was being had by all. Bet you had the sparkliest Haffy there!

Not after I had emptied oil from the oil switch checking his oil pressure! - turned out to a cut in the plastic insulation which was causing the oil light to come on and stay on.

Some insulating tape later and all was good for the rest of the Rally. At least he never said anything to the contrary! Maybe he didn't want me to "fix" anything more

I'd almost forgotten about that - but many thanks must go to John for sorting it out! 8-)
