Who's up for this one then? Might conflict with the one I posted that happens in France, but as they haven't bothered to reply to my letter and their web site "contact us" doesn't work.... I'll go with the one gets there first!

I'm highjacking this thread for a transportation Question.
Is there somebody from Great Britain or Scotland who goes to the dutch treffen and Returns home via Birmingham (Warwick) ?
There is someone who wants to buy some Parts and we try to figure out the easiest way to get them to the buyers place ..

What sort of parts are we talking about? I can certainly get the parts back to the UK, but to southern England. Then later in the year there are a couple of Haflinger meetings i hope to get to which might have people from "up north" coming to them.

Just might take some time to transport parts on the "freebie" Haflinger network!

Maybe the postage for the parts once they are in the UK will not be too expensive.

I want to send some seatframes . Here the cost is not the Problem. I don't like the shape of the paket ...

In which case, why not put them in a BIG box - makes the shape square and the empty space can be filled with old newspaper or polystyrene - I am sure it is possible to get a box they will "just" fit in, that does not need too much packing.

John - I got Google Maps out and assuming you are taking the shortest route across the channel (Dover to Calais) so that you can maximise your Haflinger driving experience I see the distance from Lewes to the Treffin is 321km. Just about the right distance for a long drive in a Haffie and not as far as I thought.

Also of interest if you are taking the route I think you are you will travel through 4 countries where here it is about the same distance from where I live to Sydney - an easy mornings drive.

I guess it highlights the differences in where we live - you cross 4 countries to cover the same distance as I have to drive to the next big city nearest to where I live.

Actually if you turn off the options in Google maps so you don't travel on "Highways or Toll" roads you get the route I shall be taking. It is much longer ~ 460km each way. As for countries, England, France, Belgium, Netherlands (Holland).
Will take a long time driving, but you do get to see a lot travelling at 40mph

I had you going up the European coast but as you mentioned I see you are taking the inland scenic route.

John, even if driving through the dead of night at 20mph you will still get held up by traffic jams around Antwerp - I'd avoid it like the plague. Can you not head due north out of Gent through Terneuzen?

Have a great trip - and very sorry not be be able to get to the Treffen!

Not really. The trouble is there is a tunnel which would cut out Antwerp, BUT it has a minimum speed limit (75kph), is quite long and frequented by big trucks! Would not really want to be pushing Lurch hard in order to go fast enough and then to have a breakdown in the tunnel with no where to get off the road Bo**ocks

So we are force to go to the outskirts of Antwerp and round the ringroad.

Hi garrycol, couldn't go myself which is a shame, I'm sure John and the rest of the Haf owners who attended from the UK enjoyed them selves, I'm sure John will probably be posting about the event but if you are a fan of Facebook ( Ok I know some people aren't ) type in Haflingertreffen Nederland there are loads and loads and loads of photos of the event. Thanks - yes I am one of those who do not use Facebook - Like Hotel California (Eagles) - you can checkout but never leave.

I would like to do Treffens but it is a bit far to go - we don't do such things here.

I have just read John's trip report where it seems he had a good time even if Lurch once again lost its Green Steam and the weather was not the best.
