Anybody know a retread supplier in Australia who could do 12" off road tyres? I remember seeing a posting with photos either here or the Yahoo group but can't seem to find it again.

I have been looking at this and you can buy new 12" road tyres but not anything with offroad tread that even comes close to resembling the original Semperit tread pattern. Likewise I haven't been able to find anyone retreading that small in even a road tread let alone an offroad tread.

If you find any one who does this please let us know.

Yes but I haven't seen the 13" advertised for some time. In 14" you can get new Maxxis mud terrains - when my current tyres wear out I will get these.

However 12" is a much different issue with nothing I have found being available.

Garry,

I rang about 5 weeks ago for a set of 13" rally tread and had no problems with availability.

Thanks - I rang them when they were advertising them on ebay - at the time they could not provide retreads on the same brand of carcasses so I held off at the time. I have some nice 13" Alfa rims that they could go on but then I have a good set of M+S on my 14" Fiat alloy rims which work well on my Haffie so I am in no hurry.

OEM 12" Tyres

I have been watching quite a few Youtube videos of Haflingers and in particular Treffen videos. I have been looking at the tyres they have fitted on their standard 12" rims.

Now I know you can still get Maloya 165-12 tyres which I do not like the look of, and apparently the Semperit 165-12 "Universal-Grip" which I do like has been out of production for years.

So how come the majority of Haffies in the Treffens that have standard 12" wheels seem to be running the Semperit Universal Grips with reasonable tread. If these are no longer available as a new production tyre - where are all these owners getting their Semperits from??

I am still looking for a suitable offroad, road legal 12" tyre for standard rims and not having much luck. I am not going to get the Maloyas. Yes I can put ATV tyres on but they are not road legal, expensive and will wear quickly on the road.

Any ideas if someone is remaking the Universal Grip tread??

Cheers

Garry

I am not sure when the Semperit Universal was discontinued, but I don't think tread depth will be an issue even with original ones. Much more likely is perishing / cracking of the side walls.

Yes I agree but there seem to be so many of these tyres on Haffies that some owners must be getting them from somewhere, I have a couple of very worn examples, so they do wear with use. I also have one very very worn Maloya.

Maybe owners have their stockpiles which are being kept for a rainy day.

the other possibility is to get them retreaded as a slick , if you can find someone to do it .
then hand groove / cut the tread pattern you want .
with the correct hot tool it is surprisingly easy .

adit , ps ; i forgot , i do not know the legality of this for road use

Well no need for retreads when there are sets of new unused Semperit Universal grip tyres stashed away!

Unfortunately not a lot of help to most of us :(

My local tyre shop rang the retreaders last week - they do not do retreads for 12" tyres - the ag people may as Kerry suggested but they are not legal on the road.

One of the tyres that came with my Haffy had them done - from Tas so maybe done at the same place

That is a standard 165/12 Semperit Universal Grip that has been retreaded with the tractor tread - wear shows how quickly the treads round off.
