I swapped my dynastarter a few days before, because auf a squeal noise from the engine. In the end it was the Distributor, but that is another Story.
I stripped the dynastarter komplete. Only left the fieldwrapping at it's place.
In the area around the Starter coal everythin is coated with a thick layer of coal dust, mixed with grease...
Who do you clean the FieldWrapping from that crap ?

I would not use any sort of solvent (Petrol, thinners etc), that might remove the lacquer from the wires.

If you have a suitably big bowl / bucket you can get the whole Dynastart into, why not try hot soapy water? Won't remove any of the insulation unless it is already damaged.
Move it around a lot in the bucket and when you take it out shake the excess water off, and spray it with WD40 (Water displacer) to remove any water still left, leave it to dry somewhere nice and warm

You could try it on a end first just to see if it washes any of the carbon / oil mixture off. - I think it will

If that does not work, you could use Carburettor / Brake cleaner fluid - try it first on a piece of wire you can see to make sure it does not remove the lacquer - it would make the patch "bright" copper colour if it does!

I don't think any liqiuds are good to go here. The wires are wrapped in some sort of paper, and I think if that paper get's wet
it dismantles. Best idea until now was to take a ragged brush and try to get rid of that greasy coal stuff without fluids.
if that wont work I will give the soapy water a carefull Chance ...

Yes I did.nearly

I think you can't get it a 100% clean without disassemble it totaly.
I use a smal screwdriver to pull off the thick coal parts from the windings and wires without touching them.
next step I take a brush and clean the rest from strong dirt .
last step is cleaning all with a brush and gasoli/diesel. But be careful with the paper. I try not to impregnate the paper too much.
Leave it untouched for a few days so the diesel can "dry" a little bit.
