Fuel filter element - renew or replace

The fuel filter on my 1970 LWB is the glass bowl type with a replaceable filter element. There was a load of debris in the bowl and I ought to replace the element (1-46 01, #32, 700.1.08.302.2).

Should I swap it out for any old "modern" (sealed) plastic fuel filter (such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Inlin ... B0051ODICC ), or would that impact fuel flow etc? Just thought that it might be the cheaper (and easier) option, rather than ordering a new element from Haflinger Technic.

TIA

Just do it right, replace the element with correct part.
There are many little filters that can fit, why is this a problem in the uK?
Are there no auto part stores there for classic car parts?
I have used screen type in place of paper ones in a pinch.

Julian,

I know of an auto-factors that has suitable fuel filters (at least they did last time I was there). As a short term solution, just the plastic equivalent fuel filter will work just as well.

What is the name (& place) of the auto-factor, John? Failing that, I thought that I might give Cliffords in Portslade a try tomorrow?
