Webber Carburettor choke link - what should it look like?

Post by calicobramble »

Good afternoon all, please could I have some help.

I have a 1965 RHD SWB polycab, with the Webber carburettor.

I am convinced that there is something amiss with the link which joins the choke butterfly to the main throttle butterfly idle lift link.

As the choke comes on, the anchor for the choke cable inner passes behind the link down to the throttle idle lever, but it fouls it. Can't be right. The wire link shows signs of having been bodged so I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

If I'm really lucky that should be a picture of what I've got.

Is there anyone who can put up a picture of the left side of the carburettor showing what this link looks like, and how it should be fitted please?

Many thanks in anticipation

Is the exploded parts picture in the parts book any good for what you want? I can't help as I have the Zenith carb.

Hopefully, someone will post a picture for you.

Have you hit the "DONATE" button at the bottom of the page after reading this post? Many thanks if you have!!

Thanks for the reply John, unfortunately my copy of the part list doesn't include the Webber carburettor at all, doesn't even list it on the contents page.

There is a side view of this carb' in the service manual, but it's taken from straight on the side view, and doesn't show the lateral relation between the parts of the mechanism. I'm kind of hoping someone's got the real thing - and a camera handy.

Many thanks

Hi Simon - unfortunately I am with John- I do not have a weber carb, and like you my parts manual does not have that carb in it.

I have had a look at my portfolio of pics but do not have any that are of help.

Good luck.

Simon, not sure if this picture helps. I took this off a spare engine that came with my Haflinger. I believe it was originally from an invicar.

Hi Jeff, many thanks for putting up the picture. It sure seems like someone had the same issue, and resolved it in a very distinctive way.

Hopefully I can do something the same.

Simon, I think this is the Parts Manual pages for the Webber carb. Do they help?

PS I have a Webber carb on my 1962 Has, but it is not going to be easy to take photo of the carb for several weeks - sorry!

Julian - thank you very much indeed, those are the pages I was hoping someone could find me. So they do exist!

Excellent, and it shows that the offending link was supposed to be bent in the middle to miss the choke cable anchor.

My very many thanks

PS got it idling very prettily tonight, the idle setting isn't quite right but I've only got a very rudimentary exhaust on it for the time being. On dismantling the carb' I found the idle jet was completely blocked, It isn't now!
