Whats it Worth in Aust

Post by AustHaflinger »

A friend on mine is into most old Army type vehicles (his Dad was the owner of the Haffie that is in the DVD "Call of the Wild" just before it went on the trip.

He knows of this 1968 Haflinger but the owner will not sell. Is stored outside with a little rust and the engine will not turn over but nothing else is known about it.

So what do Aussies think it is worth?

Certainly looks like a window and rubber out of something else - certainly has a metal insert inside the windscreen frame to allow the window and rubber to fit - maybe it even has a home made windscreen frame.

If it is not for sale, then it is either worth nothing or 3 times the price of any other Haflinger you find in OZ!

There are lots of people in the world who have "dead" vehicles which they will not part with. You only have to do a quick google on abandoned vehicle to come up with loads. There is some guy who has what is basically a frame and remains of the engine in an Indian Motorcycle from the 1940's who want upwards of $20,000.00 for it.

Keep badgering him for it and eventually he might sell!

Interestingly it is not for sale for cash but he would part with it in exchange for a forklift. :o

Nice Find Garry. I don't think it would fetch much given it it relatively poor condition, and would be expensive to restore. If it were a rare model, it would be more attractive, but it seems to be a Series II 700APT, the most common model here. A seized engine reduces its value. Being stored un-covered, I bet it's riddled with rust. I think it would be a good donor car- so worth maybe $1000-2000 with hazy photography on eBay- just my guess. Cheers Rick

So how much for a cheap forklift? As long as it was working then it ought to be acceptable.

Transport for a forklift will be more difficult than for the Hafi!

A mate of my mate has an army Haflinger and the gearbox has just died and they were hoping to get this one for its gearbox and hi speed ( ) hubs and put the dodgy stuff out of the army one back into this one. They have been after it for some time but the owner is resolute he will not sell it except for a forklift. That I think is the issue that a good forklift is worth a lot more than a Haffie requiring full restoration.

Rick - I tend to agree on your valuation - given the cost of the few basic service related parts I have had to buy for my Haffie, the starting project has to be worth very little.

I agree that this would make a decent parts donor vehicle. With all the junk metal that's laying in the platform I wouldn't expect there to be much that's not eaten away by the rusty monsters. On the up side it looks to be relatively complete but there won't be any rubber parts left for re-use and that gets very costly. It's a nice find though and needs to be salvaged.
I'd say it's worth the price of a forklift in equivalent condition
Now you just need to find a forklift with a seized motor, rotted hydraulic lines and rusted body. I've seen such forklifts that were free for the taking.
Cheers,
Steve
