Honda Vamos

Post by Julian B »

Came across this machine recently - I had never heard of it before but it does have some similarities to Haflingers ;)

Interesting vehicle, I guess a forerunner to the Kei Class of commercial vehicles from Honda, Suzuki and Subaru that came 20 years later. These are in many ways similar to a Haflinger but have nice comfortable cabins.

Suzuki looked at the haflinger around the same time and came up with the original Jimmny - small two stroke engine (359cc) and four whell drive.

Yes I can remember when the LJ50 was released in Australia in the mid 70s - there were given the name three pot screamers, referring to their 3 cylinder 2 stroke engines that revved quite high. They also stank out the atmosphere with the oil smoke from their engines. In the mid 80s I had a long wheel base Sierra 4wd with a 1300cc engine - was a good car.
