Not Haflinger - Electronic Ignition with No Distributor

Not Haflinger related but I know there is a lot of general information on here.

I am building a Rover 4.6 litre V8 engine to replace the 3.5 litre V8 in my Landrover FC 101 - more zoom zoom than a crappy old Volvo or Pinz :D

As it is a modern engine going into an old vehicle I need to work out how to provide ignition on the engine that does not have a dizzy. I can use Megajolt but it is getting very expensive as its popularity increases. The original system runs a full electronic system that will not work outside of the original vehicle.

So does anyone know of an aftermarket electronic ignition system that runs off a crankshaft sensor or something similar - remember no dizzy.

Thanks

Garry

Gary, I don't know of anything specific, but I know the Smart car uses this "no Dizzy" / crank shaft senor system and they have been converted to use in light airplanes. Obviously they don't then take the Smart Car's keys, ECU and Speedo - which are all linked and need for the engine when it is in the car.
So it might be worth asking in the light aircraft circles.

I think you really need to find a "Kit Car" forum and see what they can suggest as having thought about is a bit more, I am not sure that light aircraft are going to run huge 4.6 litre engines! If I get a moment I will do some hunting for you.

Thanks John - I will send them an email to see if it is compatible with my engine.

This engine build is starting to get expensive - even more expensive than the Haffie engine :o .
