Disconnect Clutch Cable From Steering Box

Post by AustHaflinger »

I need to repair some rust under the steering box so need to move it to one side. I have undone the main securing bolts on the floor and dash, disconnected the steering arm from the box and disconnected the brake pipes. The issue is I cannot see how to remove the clutch cable from unit as it is contained inside the housing.

I have had a look at the workshop manual and user manual but it does not seem to cover this aspect.

So - can someone tell me how to disconnect the clutch cable from the clutch pedal.

Thanks

Hi Garry,
There are 2 plates , 1 each side of the bottom of the steering column ,if memory serves me right , I think there are 3 securing bolts on each plate, remove the plates , you can now access the nut at the end of the clutch cable , the cable can now be unhooked at the engine end and then slide the cable backwards .hope this helps.

Thanks Dave - have removed the side plates but do not see how to get at the clutch cable connector on the clutch pedal. By the "nut" do you mean the adjuster nut ??

EDIT:  - just realised that when the adjuster is undone the cable comes away from the steering assembly - there is no need to remove the connector on the clutch pedal.

Hi Garry,
I presume you have removed the front protection plate? would it be possible to take a photo of the steering arm where it connects at the bottom of the steering tube (the part which is secured with the castle nut) I have just tried to connect this part and it seems to catch on the clutch conduit.

No wurries - yes is a learning process as I have absolutely no experience with these vehicles and do not have anyone local who has one for me to look at. But I am slowly getting there.

Cheers
