Help with ignition wiring

Post by Bigdougal »

I am in the process of completing the rebuild of the wiring loom (the old one was burnt out when I bought it). I need some help with connecting the 4mm red wire that comes from the solenoid to the ignition on the dash. The dash has 5 terminals labeled 15, 17, 19, 30, and one which has no number. Can anyone tell me which terminal should receive the 4mm red wire?

Also, there is the remains of a short length of 4mm wire that runs from terminal 30 on the ignition to terminal A30 on the light switch ( other terminals are T58, another A30, 57P, 56H). Is this correct and is this how the light switch gets it power supply?

Cheers

Doug.

P.s I tried uploading a diagram but my internet connection is so slow it timed out. Oh the joys of living in rural France!

Cannot advise without year, variant type(mil-spec/civy, Austrian/Swiss) and picture of dash layout  There are at least 5 wiring variations.

Hi Doug,

Like Jim, I would say it was difficult to work out what the wiring on your Haflinger SHOULD be due to all the variations. I have looked at as many wiring diagrams as can and still have not found one that matches exactly the existing wiring on my 1973 LWB RHD Haflinger. I have found that the one published in the Haflinger and pinzgauer club uk magazine a while back is pretty close. It's what I am basing all my wiring on.

Certainly from it, your second question regarding the linking wire from the ignition switch 30 to the light switch 30 (there are 2 x 30 terminals on the light switch - piece of brass joining the two) is correct.

Is it a Bug Eye type? For models with 10 circuit breakers the best closest diagram is in the OWNERS MANUAL
I have a pdf you can download.
Use internet explorer for best display.
Go to http://www.goatwerks.com/images/hafiepi ... nualNA.pdf

This is one of the last wire diagrams issued for fused/breaker late model (6/71 later) that have been found.
A picture of the dash(instrument panel) would greatly help.

Hi Jim,

No, she is not a bug eye. She is a standard 700 with 5 inch headlights. The dash has the standard single 6 x fuse box

Hi Jim,

I have the owners manual as well but it does not have the wiring diagram, just checked it thoroughly and definitely there is no wiring diagram.

Thanks again for the help.

It was an insert, not attached .
Ok,you have the std model /late type dash config layout with Bosch key ignition switch and early Hella hazard switch(4ways).
A 1970 repair manual may have the proper diagram, but you can use the std model for most of it and NA model diagram for ignition switch, terminals are all numbered.
30 is B+ 15 is ignition power.

Many thanks Jim,

So if I have understood you correctly then 4mm live wire from solenoid goes to 15 on ignition.

Not sure I follow with regard to comments to B+ and 30.

No.
Live red wire(=B+ or Terminal 30). lights/hazard switch go to Term 30.
ignition/gen field/fuel light/fuel pump(if equipped)to Term 15.
Terminal 50 is brown wire to starter solenoid.
Like I posted, download(free) NA schematic and follow it for a majority of your wiring and use std model schematic for the rest.
