Haflinger front and rear shocks?
Haflinger front and rear shocks?
Hi there everybody. This is my first post. Thanks Rick for the invite to the forum. The army haflinger I bought off you a couple of years ago is finally being worked on again after a long period. It was such a big job that I didn't know where to start. Anyway the body has recently been chemically stripped down/treated/ cut/welded and resprayed and is currently suspended from the ceiling in my garage awaiting attachment to the restored running gear/chassis. I have encountered a problem. A couple of the shocks could do with replacing and I was wondering if anyone knows of a suitable replacement from another vehicle that are similar in size that could be substituted? I've checked heaps of catalogues and can't find anything close. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Dave

Re: Haflinger front and rear shocks?
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum. I cannot help directly with what shocks from other cars fit, however I was in the same position a while ago. I took one of my old shockers to my local suspension specialist and there is a Koni that is a close match but very expensive - about $250 a pair. I cannot remember what vehicle they fitted but he just put the Haflinger shockie dimensions into his system and the match popped up so I assume most specialists could do the same.
After I recovered from the price of the Konis I bought four "standard" shocks from Haflinger Technik. They were about 22 pounds each. Now they are a basic shock but I have now done over 2000km on them and seem to work well.
Cheers
Garry

Hello David
Welcome to the forum. It may prove to be a great help over the course of your restoration and beyond. Yes, a full rebuild is a huge job. I don't think Ill work up the courage to do another.
Ive also purchased shocks from Dale at Haflinger Technik, and then from Robert Prokschi in Vienna when Dale didn't have them in stock. Im afraid I done have any locally available equivalents.
Good luck
Rick

I found direct replacement shocks for the Haflinger Monroe 31089 fit perfect and have the proper rating. $25.00 each

Re: Haflinger front and rear shocks?
The Monroe 31089 is a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle shock. Logic dictates that any shock built for the '68 Bug would fit.

I posted the price of them in my response. $25 a piece here in the states is about as cheap as it gets.Westernair wrote:I found direct replacement shocks for the Haflinger Monroe 31089 fit perfect and have the proper rating. $25.00 each
Down under, just go to your parts store and ask for the equivalant.
