"Steyr Puch" insignia refurb.

Post by cascade.king »

I've been seeing many different finishes on the Steyr Puch badges out there. I need to clean up mine.

Does anyone know if the Haflinger only came with an unpainted "bright" emblem and/or an OD military one? Were they ever painted from the factory, and if so, was it black/white/green or a combo of one or more?

Hi Mike,
Civilian Haf's use a black, white and green color combination. The Black is satin finish. The White and green are gloss finish. I've included a photo of an original set below.
Military Haf's have the badge painted over with their body color.
I'm not sure what was done with early Haf's and polycabs that used the rectangular badge. Perhaps Constantin can give us some info on these.

Cheers,
Steve

Lurch does not appear to have had any paint on his logo...

Hi John,
Most appear that way after a short few years exposure to sunlight. Mine is carefully preserved NOS part but is already beginning to show some age signs after only 4 years out of its paper wrapper :( .

My badge is as per Steve's pic - the green looks a little greener though.

Hi Garry,
I agree that the green is "a little greener" than how it appears in my photo. Chalk it up to lighting conditions, camera angle, etc.
Sorry, I don't have a color code or name for the badge's green hue.
Cheers,
Steve

I recall Constantin advising that the late model Pathfinders had un-painted badges. Is that correct Constantin?

Hello there,

sorry for the late reply, but I have been quite busy this week. Here are some pictures... No. 1 shows the early versions of the "Haflinger" and the "Steyr-Puch" badges, however here seen on a Series II Polycab model. Polycabs always had the square Haflinger badge, but mounted above the Steyr-Puch badge:

Here is the "hand-written" version of the Haflinger badge, seen on a Series II civilian Haflinger. Note that the white color is missing on the Puch-part of the upper badge.

Finally, a picture of the late version of the Steyr-Puch badge. It was used from about late 1971 on (also on the Pinzgauer). As far as I know, it was not painted.

Kind regards,
Constantin
