Hello all,

Does anyone have a modern paint code that is a good match for the red that is common in Canadian Haflingers?

I would like to get some paint made up to cover up some rust repairs I have made.

I think you are going to end up a colour mismatch - the original colour will match to those bits of paint which don't see daylight!

The paint for most of the platform will have faded / changed colour over the years, so getting a paint place to colour match to that will probably be better if you are only doing small areas.

I know you know this, but for posterity I'll say that the red pigment in paint is so UV unstable that any paint will be markedly "off" from what is on the body.

I suggest taking it to a local paintshop with a camera, who can get a "close enough" color that you can blend out. It will look much better.

I wanted to ask this very question, but I want to repaint the whole vehicle eventually.

RAL 3000 is a "bear" of a color. I've spent some time in our PPG software trying to find comps, but there are SO MANY variants. It's probably due to pigment fade at the time the different variants were logged.

The paint on the nose section is in great shape, and has buffed back to it's former glory, but I am sure it is still faded compared to new. The paint on the platform where I need to paint, has lived a harder life, I will try to get some paint made up to match there.

There are two correct answers to your question depending on the year of your Canadian spec Haflinger.

1) Pre-1968 is Audi Code LA3A "Mars Red 80"
2) 1968 & Up is Audi Code L36Q "Rot"
