Wheel Colour

Post by AustHaflinger »

I am going to sandblast and paint my 12" wheels - they are currently army green.

My vehicle is a civy beige 73 series 2 - so what colour wheels would have been on it when it was built?

We have had a 1973 civy beige Haflinger S2 since new, and the wheels have always "metal" colour (sort of silver, but not silver). I don't know the paint code. IIRC Constantin once said that early Hafs had body coloured wheels, but later on (Series 2?) they standardised them to silver. But I may be wrong!

Hi Garry, This was a question I asked from the yahoo group some time ago, This was the answer I got from Constantin, This may help, regards Dave

Some colors were taken from the RAL color scheme, e.g.:

RAL 7013 (Austrian Army)

RAL 6014 (Swiss Army)

RAL 1004

RAL 2000 (municipal vehicles)

RAL 3000

RAL 6009 (Austrian Police Haflingers)

RAL 7032 (not exact match, but very close)

The light grey/beige (very close to RAL 7032) was very usual on Australian
civilian Haflingers. Can you try to find out what your original color was?
You may scrape off some of the newer paint to see what is below. Often you
can find original paint inside the engine room, behind the headlights,
somewhere under the platform etc.

The rims on a Series 2 Haflinger like yours should be silver, a shade which
is very close to RAL 9006.

Best Regards,

Constantin

Thanks for that - silver RAL 9006 it is but more like whatever Supercheap has in spray cans for wheels

On RAL 7032 for the beige body colour - if you painted a whole vehicle in this it probably would not be noticeable but I did a little touchup with it and it is quite noticeable when compared to the original colour particularly in the sun.

Cheers

Thanks Dave for bringing up my old message! :-)
I still think that RAL 9006 would be the best choice for Haflingers with silver rims.

Cheers,
Constantin
