EARLY 1963 SWB STEYR PUCH HAFLINGER FOR SALE

Post by SAM »

Hi All

For sale MK1 1963 Haflinger with NO ENGINE!

For its age the bodywork of this vehicle is in great condition. The previous owner told me the engine blew up early in the vehicles history (in the late 70s) and a VW conversion was attempted with no success (hence the strange back). It was subsequently stored and forgotten about.

The body is very straight, whatever rust is in the images is surface rust. The tray and front footwells are solid (the rear are a bit scabby but not rusted out). It has had a replacement CV joint which cost a bit (the previous owner told me). There are a lot of salvageable parts on this vehicle and it has done very few KMS (under 10,000 miles) so the drivetrain will not be worn out. It would make a great donor for anyone doing up a MK 1. I even considered an electric conversion!!

I have moved and I no longer have room or the time (or money) so I am selling it. I paid AUD $2000 for it and I towed it back a long way and would like to get my money back.

Give me a PM if you are interested. I thought I would put it up here before I advertise elsewhere.

Located in BRISBANE, QLD, AUSTRALIA.

I am seriously interested, but I am currently living in Vanuatu and will be here till July.
A Suzuki man normally and new to Haflingers, I recently heard about two tucked away in Melbourne and now I want one for myself.

I have sent a message to my cousin's partner in Brisbane who is part of a car family with property to see if they can store it for me until Sept-Oct.
If I manage to arrange storage l will PM you very soon. I will probably go the electric route with this build, original look to be used as a DD.

Daily Driver.
Basically I would use it for what most brand new Gwagens are used for: A Shopping Trolley.

Looking at the thread again just to post this reply and I want it even more now.

A very small point, but I see that there are no side indicators on the front, nor are there any signs of fixing holes. Is this normal for early Australian Haflingers? And if so, when did that change?

Side indicators didn't become a requirement in Australia until about 1969.

My Dad bought a new Chrysler Valiant in 1968 and it did not have any side indicators, his new Valiant in 1969 had them only on the rear and my first new car - a 1974 Chrysler (Mitsubishi) Galant had them on the front but not the rear.

No, but they weren't a requirement in the UK until much after 1963 either (possibly not until 1986?), and yet my '62 Haflinger does have the side repeaters. No big deal, but strange that they made two different side panels.

Hi Nigel,

As per the thread above, I've already bought the vehicle, it is no longer for sale.

Unless this is about something else of course, but your post is not very descriptive.

Cheers,

Neo
