I would like to know why they are getting rid of a good engine. Surely having a spare is a good Idea? I know they are putting a larger capacity engine in what ever Haflinger they have, but even that might go BANG!

I doubt it will go for the buy it now unless some is really desperate.

Looks nice, maybe its been pressure washed?

Strange not to keep it.

Won't ship to UK or Europe though.

The blurb states it is basically 100% OK - I notice it has a jubilee clip in "exactly" the same place as I have one on my engine - to fix a "hole" in the Carb Pre heat pipe where it joint the Carb manifold. Would require taking the manifold off and brazing up to repair. Doesn't that qualify for "needs a bit of TLC to be made perfect"?

OK, OK, I am nit picking! If I were going to be paying top dollar for an engine claimed to be perfect, the most I would expect to have to do would be to fill it with new oil..... not have to dismantle and fix some thing.

He probably doesn't have the Hafi anymore.. and including the 2nd engine with the sale probably wasn't a good ROI. Sell the Hafi for $10k, and the motor for $5k.

And he wants $85 to create the motor.. Who says the economy is in the crapper!

Why is it that some Haflinger parts seem to have unusually high prices - I can buy a 40,000 km Range Rover Sport TDV8 3.6 engine with ZF gearbox for about the same price as this Haffie engine and the TDV8 on the used parts market would be rarer than a Haffie engine.

I have also noticed that German/Austrian prices are much higher than US prices which are in turn higher than UK prices.

I am sorry but $5000 for a used engine seems over the top.

And I'd be surprised if "the market" doesn't show that you are right. It'll be interesting to see what it finally sells for.

And when you read the ad he states w/o the carb. Then in a seperate add he is trying to get another 500 for it.
I don't like this guys sales tactics

At least if some is desperate for an original engine, they will get some thing they can start from. Trying to find a replacement engine of any sort that will fit if you have nothing is a big challenge!

I agree, I don't like the way this is presented.

By the way the Carb he is listing is NOT the one to fit this engines manifold. The manifold is for a Weber Carb not the NDIX 32.

Finally sold for just over GBP 800 which is probably a fair price, despite the lack of carb.

After my last post, i was told, on good authority, that this motor was EXACTLY as advertised. The Hafi it came from had an engine swap, and this one was mothballed.

If someone in the USA needed a motor, this was a pretty good buy.

What do you think a brand new engine would be worth?

A completely NOS motor or a rebuilt motor?
A later motor has more power than an early one.
Zenith carbed with number 5 cam etch..

I guess what someone is willing to pay.

Completely NOS! I'm not sure what carburetor is on it but it was bought brand new in about 1969. It was to power a 6 wheel drive custom all terrain vehicle. It was never finished and the engine was never run. It is attached to some type of transaxle. I don't know too much about it but could take some photo's. I have a service manual for it as well.

Pictures posted in a new thread will be far more likely to produce a positive response. As much detail regarding it a s possible will always be better than one line say it is "New old stock"!
