Yep, saw that one this morning on my ebay feed. It'll be interesting to see what it goes for.

This is a very interesting vehicle. While it does have the vintage dealer's decal, there are some details that just do not patch up with a truck sold new in Texas in 1972.

-It is not a Pathfinder truck
-It does not wear the usual US North American DOT compliance data plate on the dash adjacent to the traditional shift pattern/speed plate.
-The external rear lighting is not what one would expect for a US-spec truck
-Bullet fuses instead of circuit breakers
-The top speed is rated at 47mph which is more consistent with a Canadian NA-spec vehicle.
-The tubular side bars are more common on much earlier trucks
-The vehicle number does not jive chronologically:
Fzg.Nr. 530 7972
while the numbers below are for three NA US-spec trucks
Fzg.Nr. 531 1891 March 1971
531 2040 October 1971
531 2145 December 1971

I do not believe this is a 1972 manufacture truck.

I think it looks like a mid to late 60s Canadian spec Hafi, similar to the one Toby Pond had shipped from New England to the PNW.

Definitely not a Pathfinder..

Hello to all.
I sent the following Question/Comment to the seller:

Based on the data plate Fzg.Nr. of 530 7972, I do not believe the truck in question was manufactured in 1972. For example, a US-spec North American Haflinger built in March 1971 would have a Fzg. Nr. of 531 18XX and one built in December of 1971 would have a 531 21XX. The overall appearance would suggest this truck is a Canadian-spec NA Haflinger from the later 1960s.

I know for a fact the truck was sold new in Brownville Texas. However…you may be right on the year. I was told now 1971 from the past owner.

In checking the listing this morning, it is still listed as a 1972 and he chose not to add my information into the Questions section of the ad. Certainly his option...

It will be interesting to see the final sale price since there is no reserve on the auction.

Since I'm a total noob at this, I'll ask the question of the much more experienced folk.

I thought that any of the bug eyed hafs were "Pathfinders". Or are the Pathfinder trucks a distinctly different vehicle?

I'd like to see more history on the vehicles, if anyone has a recommendation on something in print, I'd love to hear about it.

Some of the last US-spec NA models were actually diverted to Australia. They were then equipped with some of the tropical accessories not seen on the NA spec trucks.

I just left a message of congratulations for Hawkeye Wills. That is a very high price for a truck in that overall condition. I also asked the seller for details on the tires on that truck. Does anyone immediately recognize that pattern and size?n We have two trucks that will remain farm-bound and unlicensed fro street use so DOT certification is not necessary.
Any thoughts? Obviously, this discussion can be shifted to elsewhere on the board index.

Are the two Oklahoma trucks also listed on eBay?

They're Carlisle AT489, can't see the size, but the profile and bulge is similar to the tires in my sig....should be very similar size.

I spoke with the seller and they are brand new Carlisle AT489 as you stated. Good eyes!
Size of those on his truck are: 25 x 10.00-12

Very nice option for trucks which will not see pavement.

Glad I can help, Jim. Small payment compared to what you've done.

They might actually work better than the BD tires I've got, which have a tall lug. But excellent load bearing capacity, and if the height is an issue I can always trim the lugs. The DOT rating is a nice plus.

I bet it does not sell - something fishy with that sale!

This truck ended up in Portland, OR. The owners name is Jim and he is a really great guy. He is lovingly bringing this tired little truck back to life and I think it will end up being a great truck. The engine purrs like a kitten and does not even let out a puff of smoke to let you know that there is oil in it.
