The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!
So as the title says, this forum has expenses, Major one being hosting fees.
Markus who set up the forum has been dealing with with this since setting up the forum. I know there is a silent majority of people who are members and who may or may not actually read any of the posts, but even those people would, I am sure, miss the forum if it were to shut down.
THIS WILL HAPPEN if the bills do not get paid!
I am sure most of you who are members of this forum will have come across some of my posts, they might not always be exactly what you want to read but you will atleast agree, I am keen on keeping this resource going. It's helped me lots with my ongoing battle to keep Lurch (Haflinger AP703) going.
Can I ask each and everyone of you to please hit the DONATE buttons (these are available at the bottom of every web page). Please give, even a small amount, if any of the posts in the forum have helped you in your restoration or running or even piqued your interest in Haflingers!
We need to look at this as buying a christmas present that keeps on giving throughout the year! I am sure you can donate the cost of a drink at your local watering hole or maybe the cost of a meal to help fund this forum.
Please do this sooner rather than later as the hosting fee bill is coming up at the end of the year.
Many, many thanks to all who read this and then hit the DONATE button at the bottom of the page.

John - thanks for posting - I support what John has said - the forum is a great wealth of knowledge and with its help (your help) has resulted in my Haflinger being one of the few roadworthy, registered and driven Haffies in my country.
I have used the donate button and I hope you do as well not matter how big or small - every bit counts.
Thanks
Garry

Hey John,
Just hit the donate button as well I would be up that famous creek without a paddle if it wasn't for this forum. I wouldn't say I over use the forum as I only check it about 20 times a day.
Regards Rick.

Re: The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!
So 7 people from the 200 that are registered have reported that they have made a donation to the running costs of the forum!
I would have said 10% would be active, but I suppose we will have to make do with .07% !!
Markus, does that get us anywhere near the bill for the year?
This is worse than going out for a meal and then trying to tally up the bill after everyone has "apparently" put money in to cover what they ordered. LOL!!!
Hopefully a few more will chip in.

Of course it does not surprise me.. with in any group of people, the number of "active" people is always going to be very small.
One hopes that within such a specialist group that the proportion of active people would be higher, that's all.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for those that have donated so far..
if you have not, please do so now by following the Yellow 'Donate' button at the bottom of the page.
thehaflinger.com cannot be maintained with the good will of just a handful of members.
PS. I have renewed the registration of thehaflinger.com and it will be around for another year. Don't let this fool you into thinking your donation is not needed!!!!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Markus

One other option that might work better is using a site like GoFundMe? Might help to have a directed goal to work towards?
Dunno, thinking out loud here.

Re: The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!
Many thanks to all who have donated something! It's not really about how much you can donate - everybodies situation is different. It's more to do with recognising that fact we need to give something back, for the privilege of having this forum as a resource we can access when needed.
Merry Christmas and may 2017 be a better year for you and yours!

Re: The forum is not free to run BUT you access it for free!
Do the members of this forum think that everyone who is a member will look at and respond to a PM? I am considering making up a begging letter to send as a PM to all those members who have 0 posts and possibly to others with very low posts numbers... I don't think it will really produce a huge result, but even if 1 or 2 respond that would be better than nothing.
I also think it would nice to have a "joining" PM to send to new members welcoming them. Quite what it say other than "Welcome to theHaflinger.com Forum" I am not sure, but maybe we can come up with something between us?
John
P.S. If you are reading this, have you hit the donate button at the bottom of pages?

Reminders never hurt, but if a member has had no posts, or an extremely low number I wouldn't expect to see any donations from them. A joining PM would be a nice thing to break the ice, might get folks to participate more.heinkeljb wrote:Do the members of this forum think that everyone who is a member will look at and respond to a PM? As to what it says, I think you should offer them a case of good beer, John. Everyone likes beer. Just think, this could be the only forum that does that! (yes, I happily spend other people's money).
