Sydney meet and great

Post by Vampyr »

Just relisting in the correct index, So for those that have expressed an interest. I propose the 8th of April at Lane Cove National Park. I believe this is the Saturday before Easter long weekend, perhaps at 10.00am. I have not been there before, however I assume there are BBQ facilities, Rick K could you confirm for me. Other than a face to names and looking at each others haffy's should you be bringing them and general conversation re a treffen. Are there any suggestions, Swap meet, sale items etc. Looking forward to the meet. danny

I agree - lets keep it simple first time around and make it a greet and meet, socialise, talk Haffies etc - I think anyone with an interest in Hafs should be encouraged to come along as well those who have one.

I should be able to come up - a bit far to drive the Haffie but I will bring it up in the trailer.

I acquired my Haflinger well after the Haflinger Club folded so do not know anyone who was a member (other that Rick K on here). I suspect that there not many of the old Club members that frequent this forum but some may still own Haflingers - infact I think that other that Rick and Danny I am not sure there is anyone else on here from the Sydney area.

However the Club Website http://www.haflingerclub.org.au/Registry shows additional Sydney owners who probably are not on here, Mr CD who is also a member of the Ex-Military Collectors Society (NSW), Mr DA who has a couple of Haffs, Mr Russell P down in Nowra (I can get a message to him via a friend in Nowra), then we have Matt and his LWB local to me and on here. There is also someone at Majors Creek east of Canberra.

So I guess if you know of someone with an interest in haffs - send out the word :D

Yes Lane Cove National Park has some nice spots on the river that can accommodate lots of trailers, and with BBQ facilities. I'll duck down one lunchtime in the next week and scope out a good spot, and create a map.

I have an email list of over 100 owners or interested people, and Bernard Callahan ( who now looks after the Austrlian Haflinger site) probably has a lot more names to add. I suspect we can get more than a few along for this first informal event.

Hi everyone, sorry i will not be able to attend the meet, but I wish you all the best. its a shame its not 10 -12 March as I will be in Sydney that weekend. It would be good to put faces to names.

Hey Danny,
I will be right for that date. We are at a bike rally in Clare SA before that date so a detour is being planned and we will see you on the way home. Rick K mentioned that anyone who is interested in Haffies should attend, and if that's the case you might have to hire the SCG as every one that I mention the word "Hafflinger" to is more than interested and you can't get away from them. Look forward to putting a head to a name and seeing and touching a Haffie that makes a noise. Mine has been completely silent since I have owned it.
Regards Rick.

Hi Guys, I haven't been on for a while but just noticed this post. Is this still happening? I'm the one (Mr DA with two haflingers)and I might be able to get my mate MR CD with his army haffy to come down on a trailer. I wont bring mine as they are not registered though. This sounds like a good day out and is not far from me. I hope its still on! Cheers Dave

Danny - I thought you had got yours registered.

I guess that is the problem with Haflingers in Australia - while there are quite a few haflingers around there are only a handful registered on the road.

So who is coming along to the meet and greet in Lane Cove National Park on Sat 8th from about 10.00.

I will be coming up towing the Haffie - I did consider driving it but it will take about 6 or 7 hours to drive and I do not want to stay up in Sydney over night.

I am looking to meet a couple of other enthusiasts and seeing a couple of Haffies in the flesh. I have now had my Haffie for four and a half years and in that time have never seen another on the road, and indeed have only sighted one and that was Vamps in his drive.

So please come along and havachat.

When is the date again? Maybe people need to be reminded of that, the fact it is FREE, is it a weekend / camping thing or just a one day event?

People like lots of notice and as many details as you can manage.

Yes - is as per the original post - very low key, just a meet and greet for those who can get into Sydney. Is only about 8Km from the CBD in a straight line.

As there are very few Haffies on the road here many people may be reluctant to come along without a vehicle but the emphasis for this meet is not so much the physical presence of a Haffie but a meet of like minded people to have a chat over a drink and sausage. Nevertheless both Vamps and myself will trailer our vehicles there and mine can be driven around the venue as it is registered and insured. I am not sure if any other vehicles will be there.

Cheers

Mine is not drive-able yet but anyway unfortunately the date clashes with the annual DSMRA Kowen Forest Ride (dirt biking). There's about 100km of single track calling :)

Enjoy the meet. Take photos!

Re: Sydney meet and great - CANCELLED

Post by AustHaflinger »

Hi All - speaking with Danny (Vampyr) today - it seems the only interested parties are Danny and myself. No one responded with advise they were attending to my recent post and Danny does not have any nominees.

Danny and I already know each other and I am able to drop in and see him whenever I head north.

This was an opportunity for people who live in and around the largest city in Aust to meet up and gauge interest in the marque and maybe even re-create the club, however it would seem that this interest is not there.

So be advised that the Meet and Greet has been CANCELLED however we will keep an eye out for other events that may be of interest and maybe piggy back and event on that.

Cheers

SHAME!

Just a thought, have the meet and if anyone turns up, great. If all that happens is that you get to look at each others Haflingers, great. I would hazard a guess that all the people passing by will stop and stare at least! Maybe some will be brave enough to come and talk to you and take photos.

Maybe try again in 6 months time. People are far more likely to go to something which actually happens compared to something which is just suggested.

The Dutch Treffen started with 3 or 4 Haflingers and now has 20 plus trying to come along!
