Hi Jim (Callahan),

I'm glad to see you've posted my sketch and dimensions of the hood sticks for use by others. By all means go ahead and post the photos as well as I'm sure they are helpful when looking at the sketch.

Cheers,
Steve

Do you have some thing similar to your PDF for a 703ap? The distances on the one which has been posted is for a SWB, I think. I take it that the rear part and the front part over the drivers / passengers seats are the same lengths as shown in the posted PDF?

If that's the case then does anyone have the relevant dimensions of the section in the middle? I.E. how much is door and how much is "filler" just behind the cabin?

As Lurch does not have even the side boards, does anyone have the dimension of those? I would be quite happy at the moment to have plain sheet metal sections - the pressings are there to add strength, but I doubt they ever used in a way that the extra strength would be useful!

Hi John,

Sorry I don't have any detail for the extension pieces needed for a LWB. They should be approx. 300mm long given the difference in platform and wheelbase length. You may be able to get the info from Dale at Haflinger Technik as he likely has a set for LWB. The sections are not very expensive so you may be able buy a used or NOS set from Dale or one of the Austrian suppliers. You will also need the forward hoop that fits behind the main roll bar hoop as well as the two horizontal connection bars between these two hoops. All the other pieces are the same for both LWB & SWB including the rear doors and short side boards.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for that. So there is a another hoop just behind the main cab one? Two horizontal joining bars? presumably only a couple of inches long then? Any idea where they would connect? Top, middle, two to a side, one to side?

Sorry for all the questions, but I hope to get someone to make me the hoops and sideboards, and hopefully a canvas top, but I need to provide as much info as possible or it will just be a "I think we need something else here..." type of affair!

John

Julian,

I haven't forgotten your offer of looking at your set, just haven't been able to organise time to make a plan to visit you!

Hi John,

I wish we could post PDF files on this forum as it would make explanations much easier. If you go to Jim LaGuardia's Goatwerks website you can download the illustrated parts manual. Page 2612/0 of the parts manual is the diagram of the hood sticks for the LWB trucks. I've placed a low-res image of this page below. There are two horizontal joiner bars on each side. One is located near the top and fastens at the same point as the bar that extends to the windscreen from main roll bar. The second horizontal joiner fastens about halfway up the roll bar at the same point as the horizontal canvas bow that spans the width of the roll bar. These small joiner bars then fasten to a tall middle hoop which isn't used on SWB trucks. The tall middle hoop is the same height as the roll bar because it extends all the way to the platform side rails whereas the remaining hoops fit to the top of the side boards. The short side boards are the same for both LWB & SWB trucks. My truck is tucked away for winter storage at the moment otherwise I'd give you the length for the short side boards here. Perhaps someone reading this has their truck accessible and can take a measurement of the short side boards for you. As previously mentioned, you can likely get all these parts from Haflinger Technik, Robert Prokschi or Autoquariat.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for that Steve,

Somehow I had it in my head that there was "yet" another hoop which I hadn't registered being in play from you first reply about "cross pieces", it has now fallen into place that items in question are the 300 mm odd sections which I knew about! DOH!

I'll get a blown up copy of the parts book drawings done. Much as it would be nice to contact those suppliers and just order all the bits required for a full length LWB hood & hoops, not going to happen with my finances currently, and I am not sure they will have all the items required which would still mean getting some bits made.

Judging by the number of people on here that are interested in this thread, I think there are a few others in the same boat.

So having the details required to fabricate replacement hoods and hoops in a worldwide accessible place will be useful for old and new Haflinger converts!

Also, it is quite nice to "make or fix" something rather than just buy a replacement part. Some times you have to buy the relevant bits as there is no other easy way to deal with the issue.

Anyway, thanks again for posting - I for one, am grateful!

I have managed to obtain a SWB canvas frame, seat protection panels, front and rear doors from one of our members. My Haf is a Lwb so the 2 tubes above the rear door are different, also I was missing one of the hoops and the 4 short horizontal tubes. I have just had the parts made as close to original as possible, they are at the painters at the moment so I will post some photos when finished.

Hi Jim,

Apologies to the group for being "off air" for a while and not responding earlier to this old post. In reply to you Jim, by all means you are most welcome to post the photos and drawings that I sent to you.
For those wanting door frames, I have also created CAD drawings in high detail for both front and rear sets. Jim LeGuardia produced a very fine set of doors from my drawings a year or two ago.

Cheers,
Steve

Has anyone priced making/buying a pair of canvas-type front doors, and/or a full length hood for a 700? As a cheaper alternative, I might have to consider a hood just over the friver's area, but I would still need some front doors.

Keep on Haffing
