Re: Modified Pathfinder on eBay

Very interesting! Does anyone have any details of how the engine is cooled? - i.e. assuming purely air-cooled does it come complete with all the necessary shrouding to keep it cool in stationary/low-speed use? I'm (mostly) happy with my standard power-plant, but it would be nice to know and dream of...

Re: Wheel manufacturers?

Hi John - thanks! I had the 4 wheels done, it worked out at £50/wheel compared to £90ish to get a wheel manufactured. Garry - I did look at the option of a wider rim and welding it on to the Haf centre but couldn't source them anywhere. I'm happy with the quality of the welding and for the speeds/lo...

Re: Wheel manufacturers?

As an update to this thread I can report that I've had my standard wheels 'banded' out 2 1/2" to a total rim width of 6". It was a company in Scarborough that did the work - Alonze Custom Fabrication - this seems to be fairly routine for them. They did a good job! No complaints about their...

Re: 8th Dutch Treffen 2016

Well done on the completion of another long journey John - I admire your tenacity! Even though it's something I will probably never do myself, it's great to see these vehicles doing the distance.

I echo Julian's thoughts!

John

Re: 4 door Haf

That is lovely! Having said that, I'm not sure that I'd want to own it, certainly not as my only Haflinger - it's so unspoiled that I'd not want to use it off-road, and would constantly be concerned about it's condition deteriorating. If it is totally original, it's interesting to see that the peris...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

I've used the front loop for recovery on a couple of occasions with no issues; however at the time care was taken to ensure that there was no snatching and that a non-kinetic rope was being used. Similarly, for rear recovery I've used a webbing strap through the two standard steel loops to spread th...

No offense taken Kerry - wise words.

I'll keep any eye on the young members in the club and remind them of the dangers.

Cheers,

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Here's another short report and a few varied photos from our monthly trial; this one took place close to the village of Tomatin just outside Inverness. For those of you that like a dram, Tomatin has a large distillery which produces a tasty single malt. This is a varied site with a bit of pretty muc...

Re: Well, guess that settles that...the perfect spark plug

Hey CZ - well, at least the plug is a decent colour, which suggests that your mixture is right and that it's not burning too much oil. You could try a compression test before tearing the engine down - if you've got decent compression and it's not noisy it might not need much work; the reason for the...

Re: Query on engine cover

Aaah..interesting...thanks all. I've been researching and found these illustrations on the web; if these diagrams are accurate it looks like I have the short oil-cooler fitted, which is odd - I think I need to do some more investigation in to the history of my engine. http://i206.photobucket.com/alb...

Re: Query on engine cover

Hi Julian - thanks for the info/diagrams; what you say makes sense - however my engine does have an oil cooler fitted (i.e. the standard vertical one under the cover.) My concern is - is there a risk that I might not be cooling the engine to its optimum with the current rounded engine cover fitted? ...

Query on engine cover

Hi all - wonder if you can help regarding the engine cover in the photo; this is the one that was fitted to the Haflinger when I bought it and the engine runs fine with it - doesn't seem to get too hot even when idling for a while. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4754/24914286117_2c6b70f55c_b.jpg (Ap...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Was the haflinger really able to cross that mud hole?! Well... it did, sort-of; The third photo down shows it just as it came out of the hole, spluttering, then eventually died - water had got in about the distributor and the plug leads. Not a major problem - it cleared enough to eventually l...

Yes, that is interesting - keep us posted!

Hhhmm - not so sure about the name tho'; 'BUG' - it brings to mind a small parasite that feeds on it's host and uses all it's resources.

Oh wait... :D

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

It looks too cold for me where you are. Well, yesterday the weather was quite pleasant - still not what you would call warm (about 8 deg C) but there was plenty of sunlight and it stayed dry! The days are getting longer too - it doesn't get dark until about 6.15pm which means we can get home and th...

Re: 12" Road Legal Tyres (Again) - What are the Mayolas Like

I had a set of these Yokohamas fitted to a Land Rover back in the mid 80's - when I went to replace them I was told then that they had been discontinued. Maybe that was only in the larger sizes (31x10.5x15).

I remember them being a good tyre, both on and off-road.

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Yesterday was the first club trial event of the season and it started off pretty damn cold – this first photo is just outside my garage before setting off. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4677/25911551028_b46f09384b_b.jpg There was a good turn out of vehicles but sadly mine was the only Haflinger – I...

Nice one Fred - and here is one of mine in the snow! This was taken yesterday on my way to our 4WD club trial event - I could have done with your tracks!
