Re: Those limit straps....

It's the originality thing! I think that, if the Haflinger were made today, SDP would use nylon. I think that when the system was originally designed, there just weren't that many choices for this sort of thing. Interestingly enough (at least to me), it also looks like there is a fabric core to the ...

Those limit straps....

OK, pulled mine off and ordered a hundred feet of 3/32" stainless cable. Does anyone here have an NOS strap that's unmounted and can tell me what the length is? I'm not quite convinced that my original shredded straps are at total length, but then again I don't think I can see any more than may...

Re: So what are you folks using for transmission gear oil no

Hay jhon - curious to find out if you have any leaks, or did you have a new build you're using the full synthetic with? In the past when I've tried to go synthetic from dino I've never been able to stop various leaks from appearing. With a fresh rebuild I have no issues, but with older vehicles...yi...

Any good parts sources for chassis rubber in USA?

Parts that are completely rotten on mine, such as the bellows style rubber boot that goes onto the shift tower, and shift link rod? (that's the major oil leak I've got going on...) Plus other bits and pieces. Or does anyone have any crossover parts ideas? So far SAV, CWR, and EI don't list anything....

So what are you folks using for transmission gear oil now?

All sorts of things out there, back when I had the 'mogs I had straight 90 weight GL4, which was a huge pain to find. Actually had to special order it, so if there's a more modern, recommended oil....ideas?

Yep, it's prep time...so I'm going through all fluids and maintenance items.

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Those doors came out very nice. I was thinking of something similar, but I'll probably do mine with steel tubing or rod, some vinyl paulin material that I have (old 6x6 5 ton truck kit), and use sewing plus contact cement for bonding. Have to fab up the hinges too, and figure out a way to attach wit...

Those tracks are interesting...but how long have you been using them? Seen any accelerated wear on bearings, gears and what not? How's the turning radius now?

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Thanks for that link, John. I think I did see that a while earlier, reminders are a good thing though. I'd rather not permanently modify the stock wheels. Over on this side of the pond they're kinda hard to find :D Custom making them...well, it looks like Stockton Wheel doesn't do anything as small ...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Yep, if it works out I'll be editing and posting. KoH is very entertaining, usually one huge party with a bunch of gear heads. One of the big factors here with access to "off road" areas (meaning dirt roads, unimproved roads, and unpaved back country access roads) is that many of them are ...

Re: The 'Off-Road' picture thread

Jhon - certain types of mud, yep, work very nicely indeed. My particular mud here has lots of clay in it, and you can scrape down through the lightweight loose top until you hit the teflon slick bottom layer....and I don't care what you have, lugs, chains, tracks, you name it, you're stopped right t...

Re: One 12" wheel, and a oil bath mount cyclone intake.....

Good point about the tech changing. I use a big Baldwin filter on both the Cummins and the Ford diesels, same element that's used for lots of desert racers out here. Much more efficient, huge amounts of surface area, etc. The main key is the oil bath filter, I'm a huge fan of them. More maintenance,...

Re: One 12" wheel, and a oil bath mount cyclone intake.....

Yep, same item then. The factory parts catalog does show it as an installation. I've got to think that it helps in extremely dusty areas, at least a bit. The air intake being placed where it is doesn't help things out...at least in the non-tropic version that I've got. Anyway.....any little improvem...

Re: One 12" wheel, and a oil bath mount cyclone intake.....

Howdy John, I'm looking for the small cyclone filter that comes off of the oil bath filter. I think it's probably the same animal that's on front of the tropical models. In any case, I've got the extended intake tube, but I operate very frequently in really dusty areas...thought a cyclone filter wou...
