Re: The Aftermath

I agree .
the biggest difference I have done and made a lot of difference is to machine the carby body ,
fit a bush for the main shaft .
when its worn it allows a lot of variations , air ingress . and , you get the idea .
it is worth it if you have some one that can do it .

Re: The Aftermath

the other possibilities are sealant in the mushroom valves . in the oil pump .
it is recommended to reface and re seat these when rebuilding .

the best sealant . and the one I used was Suzuki Sildar .
smells like model aircraft glue but is silver in colour .
bloody brilliant stuff .

Re: Alternative seat webbing

Pirelli webbing is the easiest way to replace them , that is what you have called rubber webbing . but upholstery elastic webbing can also be used . this is done by sewing the loops on the ends . disadvantage is it needs more pre tension . so it is a bugger to fit . but it is a lot cheaper than Pirr...

Re: Which fuel pump is that?

I have fitted 12 volt fuel pumps , particularly handy for when you run out . no need to turn the motor over and over to get fuel to the carby . it also helps with a quicker start , carby fills straight away , on mine turn the key , when pump stops clicking ,I just normally only need to just momentar...

Re: Tappet Adjustment

I have gone back into my paperwork.
it was common for clearances to close , particularly exhaust .

I always set both at 8 thou .21 mm
if having difficulty setting them accurately , err on the loose side .
set cold

this is 2 thou above recommended , never had problems .

Re: Tappet Adjustment

thin and or smaller diameter washers can bow /coin and settle into the stud posts . giving wrong head tension , but this gives loose tappets . out of interest what tappet clearance do you use . I will not go on memory , I know I always ran exhaust a bit different to factory . because they had a habi...

G,,day mate and welcome . I have seen a number of engine conversions . I am yet to see a satisfactory one , let alone a good one . loss of ground clearance or extra rear overhang . also wrong torque / power characteristics . I am not saying it is impossible , I just haven't seen or heard of one . ch...

that's interesting . as all i have specified is the bosch W5AC and that is in original paperwork . but a lot of other things can affect the running . other than electrical , carby is very common . and often it is the butterfly shaft . worn and sloppy holes changes the mixture a lot . rebuilt a numbe...

since they did not see fit to install breathers from new ! For this reason I now let everything cool down before taking the plunge ! I haven't spotted any breathers on my Haffie, let alone breather extensions - you need a Landrover for them as standard ;) or a G Wagen that has them as standard . al...
