Re: Im new and have questions..

Hi Kerry, sure I would be interested! I think shipping costs might be the first step though. Any chance you might be able to get an estimate on that first? It may not be too bad. I sent an instrument cluster to OZ a few months ago and it was only about $50 USD IIRC.

Re: Im new and have questions..

Ok, proper resolution and dude was a stand up chap. I told him I would be fine with taking half of the price of the parts back and asked him what he would like to do with the junk arm. He said to keep it and he would refund half which he did. So, I paid a bit much for some parts, learned my lesson a...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Right. So I didnt ask condition, and he didnt state condition. Obviously, one would expect if asking $350 for a pair that they might both be usable. Obviously one is not. The other will take time to extract the broken bolts. Good to know about the different sized pivot pins. I will have to measure. ...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Well, this sucks. I got a pair of control arms from a guy on Facebook and one of them has the shock mount completely rusted away like the one I already have and the other one has the shock bolt broken off inside of it along with another bolt broken off in the pivot pin on the diff side cover. Gah! I...

Re: Muffler options?

Thanks everyone, I ended up getting one from Dale this morning. It will probably never wear out of me anyway.

I cant do the right side exit in front of the wheel because the fuel tank is located there.

Re: Muffler options?

Ja, I think I am going to get a price from Dale today. I spect a few hours yesterday trying to find something and the closest I could find were silencers for generators, lol. I dont mind the cylindrical version as it offers more space to be able to work on stuff. Thanks again everyone for the input!...

Re: Muffler options?

Hmm, well I definitely dont want louder. If anything, quieter would be fine. I also dont want it underneath as it could get caught on things. All I have found so far are motorcycle mufflers, but none of them have the inlet and outlet on the same end. Maybe I should just ask Dale how much, lol Do any...

Muffler options?

Hi guys, me again. So I have found the oval muffler on one of my Haffies is rather bad and explodey. I would like a smaller and stainless option. I know Dale has one, but I cant seem to find it on their website. I also suspect there is no performance gain. So, that said, I am trying to find a muffle...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Thanks Dan and Kerry.

Kerry, I would be quite interested if shipping isnt astronomical. Any chance you can check condition of the spares you have? Thanks!

Re: Shocks?

Ok, got the Bilstein yesterday. It is an exact fit. The rebound damping is not as resistant as the compression damping, but I think it will work fine unless anyone else has another opinion? They are quite spendy at $85 each, but also carry a lifetime warranty, so that makes me more comfortable with ...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Thanks everyone. I have been in contact with Jim. Havent heard back from him in a couple of days.

Dan, who is the guy in Texas? Maybe I should contact him too as a resource.

Kerry, how much do you want for the control arms?

Re: Im new and have questions..

Thanks guys. I have a couple feelers out there now. I was quoted €580 per arm USED from one place today. Lol! Then another guy quoted me €150 for a weld on bracket. I have a couple leads in Oregon I am going to follow up on. Hopefully, those work out. I spent some time today working on the rear seat...

Re: Im new and have questions..

The shock is completely dry and dampens as expected. Of note, and I should have mentioned this earlier, the bolts were both seized. I did use heat, twist, and an air hammer to loosen the bolts so as not to break them off. So, its possible this may have tweaked the mount. I dont recall it leaking pri...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Hi John, I see what you mean. I just went back and looked at it again and inspected the entire circumference of the arm and there is no oil all the way around about 75mm inboard. Completely dry. There definitely wasnt any crazy vibration that I experienced in the very short time I was driving it ver...

Re: Im new and have questions..

True! Violated my own rules! I always tell my guys to clean and inspect prior to making a diagnosis! Its definitely not brake fluid. I dont see any oil line from the boot to the shock mounting. Is there supposed to be one? Noted on the control arm. I didnt intend on pitching them anyway. I have lots...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Here is what the suspect control arm looks like. The other one is definitely toast and I found a replacement for about €40 each, so I would rather do that then try welding a fix on only to find out there is nothing to weld to after grinding the rust away.

Re: Shocks?

Ok, I admit I am pretty jealous of that hp number!! its really not a bother to check these shocks since everything is very well taken apart. Im not opposed to spending money with Dale. We actually have a running order almost reaching €1k. I can get the bilsteins within two days. They have a lifetime...

Re: Im new and have questions..

Well, I found some place that can sell me just the complete control arm, so I would rather do that. It seems to be leaking (the one that didnt tear away the shock bolt upon removal) right where that bolt is. Ive not cleaned it well enough to ascertain exactly, but I presume is leaking from a rust ho...

Re: Shocks?

I dont think you can get Bilsteins that arent dual dampening. I did a super scientific test of feeling the resistance between the stock shocks and the VW shocks that I got that were too long and the Bilsteins were a little stiffer if testing the fronts vs the stock Haffie shocks. The VW rear shocks ...

Re: Im new and have questions..

I got the panels from http://www.haflinger-ersatzteile.at/index.php/en/. He shipped them to me in the US from Austria. What you dont see are the end caps and seat brackets. My Haffies didnt come with any rear seat stuff, so I am adding it to the green one. I am lucky in that there isnt any mentionab...
